hi Afriman

I am configuring dead gateway detection, but I need an IP address I can use to test for routing failover...
Is there an IP which is only accessable via the Afrihost network, and not via an external network like Vodacom/Cellc ?

Responded to your PM - the ticket is closed as soon as a consultant responds but open when you reply to the email - so the ticket is never really closed until the client stops responding :)

hmmm, nope, dont think so, i cant reply to this ticket, looks like 2 new tickets are on my panel.

Indrani is assisting me here, it sounds like she is a bit more clued up and understanding of my problem, so this is a work in progress :)

Although going for week 5 now, and Samantha does not want to give me a refund or some credit, says she can't see any faults for my account ??? while in the mean time telkom is applying credit, so telkom > afrihost? :(

are these business accounts usable on the weekend esp for gaming? coz i am battling with black ops 2 on a saturday

From adsl line perspective, not from data perspective.

5,6,7,8 and 10meg lines all cost the same.

But nothing is stopping you running a 6meg account on an 8meg line.

Ja 8mb package upgrade is going to cosr R400 more - not worth it for what I need

okay, so this is the 2nd day i am sitting here like a dumb poepol waiting for telkom to show up, afrihost told me they would be here saturday and nothing happend, looks like the same sh*t again today ? what the hell afrihost ? i cancelled other appointments to sit here and wait

Afrihost doesn't control Telkom, did you really think Telkom would work over the weekend?

Hi AfriMan,

I signed up for a 4mbps business uncapped account in my clientzone this morning, but P2P seems to be disabled / heavily shaped on the account. I can download ok on my other business account, so what gives? I see it mentioned in this thread that there is a "protocol prioritisation" setting in the clientzone that I can disable, but I don't see it anywhere. Where can I find it? Surely you don't enable this by default for new accounts, do you?

Thanks

Unfortunately, this is out of Afrihost's hands :/

Yup - It is enabled for new accounts :-( However, it is very easy to turn off :D

You have to visit the new clientzone - http://clientzone.afrihost.com/en

Connectivity --> Business Uncapped

It's completely voluntary so you should be able to click on it and say deactivate

I have to say though, that that is VERY dishonest from Afrihost and I really would have expected better.

Firstly, if you advertise the account as being unshaped, then don't shape the traffic by default.

This is from their Business Uncapped advert on the website:

"Protocol Prioritisation" needs to be opt-in, not the default setting. I also shouldn't have to come here to find out about it, and I also shouldn't have to search through the new clientzone, which is not the default clientzone and is not compatible with all browsers, to find the setting.

This setting was only introduced about a week ago. I suggest you tell Afriman about this and im sure he'll chat to his web-dept to see if they can change it. The feature was only brought in because it was requested here on this forum :)

Thanks!

I don't think it any disohonesty intended on our part - we only recently introduced this feature for added value to business owners. Many small offices or business go for the business option, but find their staff running torrents over their network and then other staff can't get mails or access web based services. So it's purely a value added feature. The business account is never shaped by us - we let clients decide if they want to shape their connection (which also saves on buying expensive firewalls and exchange servers to achieve the same goal :)

We're really sorry about that - it's really exclusively up to Telkom. If we could have our own technicians we would.
If he hasn't arrived by Monday, please PM me and we'll escalate this to Telkom management :(

We're definitely seeing great latency and throughput this weekend. Are you seeing more latency on traceroutes and speedtests? -s

If Telkom are crediting you - is that for the voice line? If you've had downtime on voice and data, we can apply for a similar dispute on the data portion. Just PM me some more details.

You should be able to reply by mail - even if the ticket is open on our side. Not sure why it's not allowing you to reply. But if you reply on the email from your mail client - you should receive an automatic response from our ticketing system.

I'm not sure how to assist here. Do you need a static IP that will always be available or just an example IP from our IP range?

Can you PM with more details about what you need to achieve here so I can advise how we can help?
