I've got serious slowdown on my 2Meg account as well. Cannot even stream basic quality video, and my web pages load very slowly indeed, sometimes. Latency seems fine, but there are these weird once-off timeouts in my pings:

Ping 1:

Speedtest is up and down, and a bit on the low side - normally it's between 1.74 and 1.78Mbps:

View attachment 86213

There is a gremlin in the system somewhere, that's for sure. Not great, this.

Anything to report, Afripeople?

Oh, and I live in Centurion.

We're not seeing anything unusual on our side on the network. The packet loss is pretty disturbing. Since there is no accompanying spike in latency is could indicate a drop in sync momentarily or a possible line fault that is intermittently dropping packets (or at the exchange).

PM me so we can test further is this persists :(

LOL. This was 22 hours ago already.

By the way, it's perfect again tonight ;) Thanks.

I cringe when I hear the word "shaping". I don't think this is the correct terminology,

I also have grown to hate it - even though I once loved it when we finally got rid of throttling. Funny how these things grow on you (or whatever the opposite of that it is) :)

Trying to game, but getting very bad latencies.
Seems like it happens after the timeout, then the suspect core domain name, wtf..

I don't see anything suspect. Read here:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/366246-ADSL-ISP-that-makes-use-of-AfricaINX
http://www.africainx.net/

Obviously, the game server hosts use Web Africa or Cybersmart, or some ISP that uses Africa INX. Contact the people whose servers it is.

By the way, that latency is still more than suitable for gaming. I get around 200ms ping to European servers, and it works just fine.

How do you guys compare to VOX?

We are currently on a 4mb uncapped with a static ip connected to an over-subscribed telkom exchange.

If you have proof that the exchange is congested, then no ISP will be able to help you.

Only Telkom can fix that, and it will be long term.

Hi Afriman. Thinking of getting business uncapped.
is the prioritisation option either on or off or can it change according to scheduled times that is user managed?

It's entirely up to you if you want it enabled/ disabled :) It isn't available on a schedule, you'll have to manually adjust whether it's on or off.

Well in my local game I was getting 35ms, when I normally get 9-10ms. 3x increase can be a big deal...

wow, ok, so a few months ago we were advised to go for business account to get a better experience.
getting about 20-40% throughput on my 4mb business account, but maxing the current line sync speed out on a a prepaid capped account.

combination of streaming, http downloads and p2p game patching as well as steam patching.

graphs and contact info is on ticket NVV-146-52829
unless you want me to make the results public on this forum :P

*edit - I have tried toggling the Protocol Prioritisation.

Not 100% sure if this is the right section, but I cannot find another Afrihost Uncapped Thread...

When are Afrihost planning on dropping their pricing?

Currently they are R797/month for 10mb uncapped.

Reply would be appreciated
