I've got a distro flying at 512KB/s right this second.
I think it's pretty much open to interpretation. Speedtest is widely accepted as the standard for throughput testing, but a lot of tech people swear by test my net. It's really a different methodology used in testing, so the two are very different.
I generally prefer to get speedtest results to compare, because that is what we work with and it gives a common baseline on which to interpret from in terms of troubleshooting. Most speedtests like SAIX or MyBB all use the Ookla engine which is the same as Speedtest.
Anything over 30ms for the second hop is pretty horrible. Looks to be congestion at a first glance, but we'd need to test further to confirm
I spoke to another guy on 6Mbps Business and he said he generally downloads at around 700KB/s.
He sent me a speed test:
I'll phone customer care and have them up my sync rate to 7Mbps to see if that helps me.

It's worth a try, it just depends on whether your line is more stable on those speeds. If not, it may have the opposite effect, but I guess only trial and error will prove which

It worked! I was worried for a few minutes, as my speeds crashed to around 2Mbps despite rebooting my router twice, but it came right eventually. So stoked right now...
PS: While the guy I spoke to at the call centre was perfectly pleasant to deal with, waiting half an hour to speak to someone wasn't fun. Seems like Afrihost needs to expand the call centre?

How to test further, please assist Afriman, it's getting too frustrating. Can't even play online games on the ipad because of constant loss of connection and time outs.
I think we'll need to establish whether the results are the same if we test on different networks, say Telkom and ours.

Our line is currently syncing fine, what I have done for you is recreate the port on your service. Please switch off the router for 10 minutes and reconnect.

The response from the exchange is a bit inconsistent and higher than what I'd like to see.Do these response times increase after hours?

I feel it's getting worse on weekends but I will do a tracert again tonight
Sounds like some classic exchange congestion to me
If your line is with us we can have a fault logged for you.

I'm on the 10Mbs Bus uncapped, want to ask Telkom to sync my line speed to 20Mbps. However, must you use a VDSL modem since the ADSL2+ modem can do upto 24Mbps right?
If VDSL modem is needed then can Telkom not just simply bump the line speed to 20Mps profile, which ADSL2+ supports?

Not correct, if you have a static IP, the second hop is always around 30ms.. Just thought I would add my two cents
