Does your exchange support 20mbps?

yes it does.

I'm lucky enough to be on one of the first in CPT to installed.

I phoned Telkom and they upped the line speed it seems, but I presume due to the non VDSL modem it's only syncing at 15Mbps

Update Counter : 20
Modulation : ADSL2+
Annex Mode : Annex A/L
Line State : up
Lan Tx : 196271206
Lan Rx : 198044855
ADSL Tx : 1846
ADSL Rx : 854
CRC Down : 0
CRC Up : 0
FEC Down : 0
FEC Up : 0
HEC Down : 0
HEC Up : 0
SNR Up : 7.0
SNR Down : 23.1
Line Attenuation Up : 4.4
Line Attenuation Down : 3.6
Data Rate Up : 1133

Damn, that's a good speed test. Do you get download speeds anywhere around 1.2MB/s?

Yep did a test download and got close to 1.2MB from news servers

Happy with the net effect.

Ok here goes real stupid questions.

I'm on the 10Mbs Bus uncapped, want to ask Telkom to sync my line speed to 20Mbps. However, must you use a VDSL modem since the ADSL2+ modem can do upto 24Mbps right?

If VDSL modem is needed then can Telkom not just simply bump the line speed to 20Mps profile, which ADSL2+ supports?

It should be a different modulation method as far as I understand, but maybe they are compatible. Always worth a try, cos VDSL routers start around R1,200 :(

Hi Afriman, please pass this message on to Eugene K's line manager :) (the email provided was not accepting external messages)

Hi there

I have had several small issues with my line in the past, but every time 'Eugene K' assisted via the web chat.

I would just like to make you aware of his awesome and prompt assistance in the three or more times he has assisted me!

Great stuff, keep up the work guys!

Regards

If you were on VDSL your modem wouldn't sync at all. 15Mbit is the max they will push you to on ADSL modulation.

Get a VDSL router and then contact whoever manages your line to move it to the VDSL profile.

Ah, on that topic - I had a query a couple of months back and I remember Eugene also being very helpful and efficient. Of all the agents I've dealt with on chat support, he stood out as a great example of how support engineers should act. Props from my side as well. Buy the guy a whiskey.

As far as I know Telkom are not allowing people to keep 20Mbps on ADSL2+ and they're taking it away after a day or so. Hope that doesn't happen here, but we've had a few cases like this :(

This is where the exchange is ADSL2+ (IMAX) and not VDSL (MSAN)
