I can now confirm that there something blocking sites on my line, or profile.
I have found a site / proxy to test, and now I can access Turbobit.net via this, but not from my standard browser (both Chrome and IE cannot display the page). Seems that my profile with AH is blocked somehow.

Uhmm... I can access it. You aren't running any torrent anonymity apps are you? :)

Nope... straight into the router. Seems to be on all ISP accounts now :(
I had a similar problem at the beginning of the month where torrents were limited to 6kB/s on ALL ISP accounts. After a power failure at the exchange, everything came back to normal for 3 days, and now I can't access turbobit.net. This is why I asked for a physical port change at the exchange to rule out faulty equipment there, but the calls were closed after 3 weeks, and nothing has been done.

Ahh :/ I never realised an exchange could do this sort of stuff? (Well, speed I can understand). Which firewall are you using on the pc?

I've tested from my AH capped account and can access it using Chrome.

I will test with my AHuncappedshapedtohell account if you wish, but can only do that a bit later.

Awesome! That's fine then :)

My best ISP experience has been with Afrihost - so I'll just stay here

I have to agree - I have been to Openweb (terrible in the day) and Mweb (great till they started with their AUP nonsense) and am now on Afrihost Business Uncapped. It's awesome.

Our partner in Cape Town disagrees - apparently all of the Afrihost/MTN users down there are suffering. He did a speed test on his 4Mbps line with an Afrihost capped account and got 1.2Mbps. That means there is a serious lack of capacity in Cape Town.

It seems to be a constant issue though... I'm not sure why they don't order the necessary IPC bandwidth in a timely manner. Sure it takes 2-3 months to get it BUT you can build a model to estimate the requirements.

Maybe the 3G that they are subsidizing is hurting the cash flow so they can't afford to buy more capacity until they really have to or said in another way: Our speed complaints are now sitting at 30% so we better upgrade now. That is basically how most ISP's work by the way. Sad but true.

Yea, timing wasn't brilliant - at all. However, capacity only 15 days away :)

Nothing has changed on my PC.... been using the same antivirus and firewall (Windows 7 x64) for the last 2 years. PC was reloaded 2 months ago... never had a problems before. All this started from the move of the line from Telkom to AH. First, there was sync and account authentication, but no throughput whatsoever... my friend who lives 2 roads over had exactly the same issue. The only thing that solved it was a physical port change at the exchange.

Well, thats interesting. Exchange blocking certain webpages :/ See - you learn something every day :P

I don't really know how you could fix it apart from getting it moved again (Then again, you said telkom put the phone down :/)

Your line is with AH right?

Like I said, and have been saying for the whole month... how it that I couldn't download torrents at more than 6kB/s for 2 weeks. Then, there was an outage in Milnerton Exchange due to cable theft (Eskom and Telkom in the space of a week). When the systems came back up, all of a sudden I could download torrents at full speed again. One week later, and I cannot access turbobit.net at all. When I try from my Dad's house (10MB Uncapped), it works for 5 minutes, and then there are server errors and corrupt files... after that, you can access the website, but can't download from it at all - coincidence???? But, if you use another ISP from my Dad, all is well again. FYI, he llives in Milnerton, about 800m from the main exchange.... I live in Sunningdale, and route through Blaauwberg, then into Milnerton. It all seems too "convenient" that as AH starts having IPC/bandwidth issues, both lines start screwing around

...this after years of working without a hitch???

I have been corresponding the whole morning with AH.... three different guys screwing with my line and resyncing it to 8MB, then 10MB, then 8MB, the 10MB.....

Eventually, this is what I got from one of them,

Hope this email finds you well.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and lack of service received.

Your line sync is on 10MB profile, with regards to the slow speeds, there is an issue in the Cape Town region.
We awaiting for more capacity to be installed by MTN, I will keep you updated on this progress.

So, now it's waiting for capacity from MTN?????

This was my response... apologies, I was quite hacked off by this stage.

Good morning,

Now you're waiting for capacity from MTN???? I thought it was IPC from Telkom.... this is utter nonsense! This is a BUSINESS UNSHAPED ACCOUNT, so you are now admitting that you have been shaping/limiting it on certain protocols, all the while making all of your business clients in Cape Town do repeated tests, and making us believe we are at fault.

This has been going on since 23 February.... I still cannot access turbobit.net from this account.... this is ridiculous! I am paying Afrihost a premium, and you are costing me a month's subscription to Turbobit that I cannot use. I want any and ALL restrictions on this account removed immediately!

He gave me another test account, and it too fails to allow access to Turbobit.... so now I am back to what I asked for over a month ago, "I want a physical port change! We need to see if the traffic will be routed differently. This is what a Telkom tech advised, yet both calls have been closed and marked as resolved" :wtf:

Line sync may be a physical line/ exchange issue as opposed to an IPC related issue. PM me a ticket ref# and I can check things out for you.
To also confirm, the IPC capacity is deilvered by Telkom to MTN who we use for the IPC.

They have fixed it.

I think the various reps were instructed not to admit to anything, reminds me of when MWeb started to enforce their aup, and the reps refused to admit anything had changed. You have to feel sorry for these chaps/girls. Would be nice to rant at some of the bosses!

This hasn't been the case at all. We've always been very open with you guys.
I got the mail in my inbox this morning confirming the date, which was then published here :)

Very strange, we don't block/ restrict any access to sites.
Do you have a traceroute we can have a look at?

You know what. Listen here. There is a reason I stick with Afrihost. I have tried the Lot... MWEB, Axxess, TI, Openweb and WA. All of them, for me, have had some quite shocking experiences, as well as some quite good ones. However, they didn't help me when I asked, nor provided me with extras for being a customer. They blatantly treated me as a client whom they wouldn't mind losing. (This is generalising, Openweb had great support, however slow speeds.)

Yes - I do preach Afrihost quite high, not because of a "blind allegiance", but rather because EVERY single time I have an issue, EVERY single time something is wrong, they are quick to respond and quick to help (My experience over the past few months, I haven't really had any support tickets lately - so I cannot comment on their recent support structure). Yes - their network is crap at the moment, I know. But watch - when they come out of it (Like they did last time a few years ago), all the other ISP clients who left because of the bad connection will come running back. A few months ago, MWEB had issues. After them, Telkom had issues. It's a big loop.

If you are unable to look through the downfalls of a company and look towards the future. I am sorry for you. Afrihost has a plan to make it better! I don't see the need to leave now just to come back in a few months time? Stick with WebAfrica then? Really - there is no need to come into these forums and devalue a product, just because you don't like it. I know there are issues. Believe me, I am experiencing them too - however seriously, get over it? I will help people, who I think could have an issue elsewhere, whenever I like - so please stop trying to discredit my input. Yes, there is an IPC issue - however, in the case of i.got~issues - he had 1000ms ping to all of his accounts? So, I thought it could be a line issue. 20 People out of 100's of Afrihost clients active on these forums means that the issue is not completely widespread (surely??). Yes, again there are capacity issues, however is it an issue for me to try help people? Come on?

If you would like to have an argument, please PM me - I don't think the other forum members would like us to have it out in public. I would much prefer not having one, however it is up to you.

Z

can you please take your lovers quarrel else where :)

Yea :/ I don't know how to give any advice, 'cause to be honest - I don't know what else will help :(
