Happy? :)

Too bad the rest of the Network page doesnt reflect the issue.

So it seems that after 14 months, Telkom sent out two Tech guys who agtually know what they are doing!! Thanks Afrihost!! If it wasn't for you putting pressure on them, this would never have happened going on their past track record in this area.

7+GB in less than 3 hours? Yes, you see that correctly.
Line is flying along very nicely at 6Mb once more!

Edited to add:

From midnight to 8am this morning, 14.78GB has been downloaded, connection seems to be rock solid and flying!

Morning Guys

There's been an intermittent issue with Latency on the North network, seems to have gotten worse over Sunday evening. We're busy investigating the issue with MTN, but the cause seems to be a failure of a small portion of the IPC. Once we've confirmed this with Telkom we should be able to restore full capacity again. For now we're shaping as hard as possible (on Uncapped accounts) to control latency - especially with many people back at work after the string of long weekends and holidays.

If all goes well, shaping (on Uncapped) should control latency and should give mostly normal performance on unshaped services. Clients in the affected region may experience slightly higher latency - we're hoping this will not be excessive - we'll have to see as demand continues.

We're hoping to have this all sorted out as quickly as possible.

Are you shaping business uncapped accounts as well? Your previous posts suggest that business uncapped, like capped, don't get shaped.

If you don't shape business accounts, why are we also experiencing the effects of the shaping?

He just posted the same message in both the Business and Home uncapped threads.

If you check my post, I mentioned that we're actively shaping Uncapped accounts. I know this sometimes causes the confusion you're having, but I think it's important for all users to understand how the network is managed to provide the best experience for Capped, Uncapped and Business.

We don't shape business, but when demand spikes, latency will be felt across the entire network. The loss of partial IPC places tremendous strain on on available resources, especially where we're having to shape already to manage latency and performance. So now we're basically shaping at max, but there could be latency increases if demand is not fully managed while the IPC is not performing at full. So it would be "contention" rather than shaping, but this could be felt across all products until the IPC is fully restored or demand is kept within manageable limits.

Here you go again playing with words and descriptions. Completely dishonest.

Guys there is no shaping on the business accounts. I think that maybe AfriMan should rather mention shaping "Home" Uncapped accounts instead of referring to these as uncapped accounts as this is probably causing the confusion.

The IPC link in the North has been restored and the network is returning to normal.

Thanks for everyone's patience and understanding :)

What was the cause?

As far as I know one of the IPC links failed, so we were running very hot on the network. It also meant that shaped at maximum (for Uncapped Home accounts) we still saw some spikes in latency and some throughput issues.

Telkom came onsite and resolved the issue and restored the link, bringing our North network back to capacity.

Afriman, thanks to you guys, the line is absolutely flying again!!!!!!
I am happy.

I had loads of catching up to do after having dismal internet for way too long and maybe this pic will explain how nicely it has been going so far today:
