I signed up for a static IP but now am being told that I must have a router that supports l2tp. To be fair that's not really my understanding of a static address but rather a vpn but nonetheless... I asked support to help me set up my netgear dgn4000 router for this and they said they didn't know how to... Any ideas?

I think some ISP's have other ways of supporting static IP - not sure how they do it. We do it using client initiated L2TP tunneling, which must be supported by your router. If the Netgear does it, then it should be pretty easy to setup to connect to the L2TP server (I've got the details somewhere here) :)

I suggest you use http://www.dyndns.org and configure your router's Dynamic DNS setting.

i think i am going to move to AF

just there user cp are worth moving

and they offer 6mbps on business

i will test them and if i am happy i will move my line over

just need that link to get 50% off for the 1st month :)

Could you perhaps paste a ping/ traceroute result here?
I'd like to see where things are getting lost.

It started 8:00 in the morning on Saturday
It stops my pop mail after this I try webmail it both not working change to Vodacom on my ipad mail works
Change adsl to telkom everything is working

Odd, there shouldn't be anything blocking this from our end.
Best bet here would be to paste a traceroute to either the webmail interface or a mail server that you use.

Funny everything is working know I change back to afrihost DNS and it is working know

But I still get no reply from my ticket your service is not as it was last year no afrihost on weekend on my broadband telephone support only to 15:00 chad is not working wait 10 min than tell me all support are busy open a ticket this was at 12:30 on Saturday first reply on the ticket was 18:43 this is 6 hr on a Business DSL

Zertop's "Is it my Line" Results
Basic Report:

Your average ping was 8ms
Your maximum ping was 14ms

Looking at your average ping, your line seems to be running perfectly :-)
It seems that your maximum ping is also good. If there are any issues, they most probably lie with your ISP :-(

This is really crap service, restarted router, etc never helps. Also what happened to sorting out the business clients that got poor service during the ipc issues, this never materialised?

Speeds seem a bit better this morning, but no help to me when I needed to download stuff last night, not good enough!

Yup - can't even get to www.afrihost.co.za

Ironic, considering that the end of the week it's pay up time again... Afrihost has SERIOUSLY become the biggest *****hole of a ISP ever... Can't be bothered about their customers, just want their money...

@afridudes.
If I pause my service tomorrow or the day after, will I still be debited next month?

Funny everything is working know I change back to afrihost DNS and it is working know
