Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

I'm curious as to why the capped and business accounts have different routing...

As mentioned by @cortexenslaver

I can't replicate any differences in routing on my side, though I know that he has had problems like this for some time. I saw some similar reports yesterday over social media, but in general those were resolved to be issues on the host side.

Nothing is really giving me any indication of anything going wrong here. Maybe we need to run these tests after 8 when you have these issues?

Will test it again tonight, had no issues last night with streaming.

OK, streaming is crappy again, here is my test results:

Starting to get really annoying, I tested the same vids with my backup webafrica account and it streams perfectly from there. Obviously there is a big problem with Afrihost and streaming...it just does not work.

Agreed.
But it's fine, we'll just do 12 387 test and post results here only to be told there are no issues.
Then we moan some more and all we get are replies that will be the usual blah blah blah......

Paying a premium price for a 6MB business line and can't even stream a 720p Youtube vid seems fair, right? Cut the BS please, AH, and give us what we pay for.

I was testing streams for a client in another thread and I was seeing excellent throughput on my line. Did you measure whether you were getting full throughput on the line while streaming?

What sources are you streaming?

Agreed.

I posted this pic from my tests last night, showing that I was getting full throughput on my line last night on a YouTube 720p HD stream. Maybe we need to run similar tests on your side to see if you not getting the right throughput on your line.

Does Afrihost Business support QoS? I have a DSL2750u (terrible router) and want to prioritize certain MAC addresses over others. I am really surprised how well gaming is prioritized though... I can download a torrent and at the same time continue gaming at a great ping.

We don't really have any influence, that happens at a local network level. So your router essentially does all the work :)

It seems the videos I have trouble with are ones that are not cached locally. Why is international streaming so bad from youtube & twitch etc. Too many people have this problem and it's an afrihost problem. Using another ISP solves the problem for me. Please fix this problem we are paying a lot for these business accounts.

We're still investigating on our side. In general throughput to the US seems to be good when we do a straight file download from one of our own servers. We're looking into different network routing within the US used by Netflix and other services which seem to be performing differently. We're working with MTN to see what can be done to improve the overall experience :(

Well I hope you get a resolution sooner rather than later cause its just not good atm!

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Strange. I don't seem to be noticing any general problems on our side.

Is it all streaming or only those two specific sites?

Are you busy using the line for anything else?

Would you send me a PM so we can do some thorough testing with you ----> PART 2

----> Part 2.

Hi. Would you kindly do a traceroute to both local and international sites, using your afrihost account and the telkom guest account, we would like to compare the results to work out if there is a problem....

<provides proof of ****up on afrihosts network>

Hi. We have noticed there is an unclosed connection on your line. We have reset it. Kindly check if the problem continues and let us know.

<Rages, tests, still ****, provides proof>

That's strange. It is quite possible it is a problem with congestion or a local routing issue with your geographical location, i.e. not our fault.

<Provide irrefutable proof that afrihost is talking ****, and with other ISP it works>

Hmmm, that is unfortunate. I will escalate this to our critical care department.

Hi this is douchebag from critical care. I've been informed there is some problem with your connection. Kindly provide the following test results.

*repeat until all is given to douchebag 1 through 4 at critical care*

I have escalated this with MTN. Our senior engineers will be in contact with them, and they will have to see why there is a problem.

*A week and a half goes by*.....

Try to enquire about ticket -

Hi. I am sorry, but I had nothing to do with logging your ticket.
Please will you provide me with tracerouts showing the problem you are experiencing.

*demand to speak to manager - get put on hold for 20 minutes - get transferred - answering machine - F?UUUUUUU - Swear at voicemail. Give up*

Hi. I am sorry I have not contacted you in 2 weeks. I have been ill. I am still awaiting a response from MTN.

IS there still a problem with the account? - will you kindly provide tests.

I.E. Business Uncapped - a ****ing scam.
