Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Aaag no. I am a new subscriber of the Afrihost 2MB Business package. I switched this afternoon from IS to Afrihost. Well, I can surf but that is all I can do. I can't connect to Safex the derivatives exchange (the main reason I went for the 2 meg business) and my "other" downloads are also standing dead still.

What a disappointing first time experience!

Really sorry for you - you should read the forums before making a switch in the future. Afrihost has some serious issues at the moment and instead of being open and honest about their network state and behaviour they try and deceive their customers.

Really sorry about this :( I'm confident that services will return to normal soon!
Just to confirm, I'm assuming your "other" downloads are P2P? :p Have you checked your Business optimisation settings in the ClientZone?

"Business optimisation settings in the ClientZone?" Interesting. Have gone through every option in the client zone and I can't find something called business op settings. Is this a James Bond item?

sigh..getting tired of this. So iv been unable to stream 720p videos from youtube this whole week, why? i mean sometimes i can only stream144p if lucky and dont get a blank screen and continues buffing icon..whats going on ?

We've managed to stabilise the North and South and seeing much better performance overall, but the East is still seeing high demand. We've still seen some periods of high demand in the East (though yesterday should have been good from my reports). We're focussing on the East performance now to make sure we optimise performance to reproduce the results we're seeing in other regions.

Thanking you kindly ... soory 'bout my fit of rage - not very civil of me .... just frustrated.

Hehe!
It's under the Connectivity page, on the left of the page under your shaping policy :)

Thanks sir, I found it, but the devil is in the detail - Client Zone - Connectivity - then click on right side on your package you have - then look under account overview = Business Op : Active

Why would you even have such an option if the goal with going business is to have the max of all options? Let me ask it the other way around - who would want to go business and not have BOP "Active"?

Afriguy look at this link. http://www.investing.com/indices/south-africa-40-futures-advanced-chart
Do you see that drop. I could not trade that since I could not connect to Safex!!!! That was a 770 point drop at 10 bucks a point. You guys cost me 7700 rand!!!! I don't know if you have a priority list but I better be at the top of it because, if we drop more tomorrow and at 09:30 I can't trade, I will be billing you for services not rendered. You are messing with my income stream.

Afrihost will claim differently, but at times during the past few days not all traffic for business adsl accounts were assigned the same priority (as I indicated previously with HTTPs having higher priroity that specific conent over HTTP) on their backbone bandwidth (NOTE, this is not same as different priorities on your specific connection - so business optimization setting wont affect this). Most likely whatever protocol you use for safex is being assigned lowest priroity on their backbone and then subsequently either completly blocked or oblitterated by the general lack of capacity that afrihost is suffering from at the moment.

YouTube is now buffering constantly. And Skype call's are so broken you can't hear a thing..... Come on Afrihost!!!!! Fix this **** already....

We aren't throttling/ shaping.
As mentioned in a few posts before, the increases in demand cause contention on the network - which will in turn affect some speeds.

Sorry! This is a load of nonsense. A spike in demand is short and sharp. This has been going on for about 6 weeks now. This is clearly a lack of capacity and nothing else. You are collecting the full invoice amount from yoour clients and delivering about 10% of the value, That is about as close to fraud as you can get. You still attribute the problem to a "spike in demand" and continue to deny that the problem is within the AH network. You refuse to give a reasonable explanation as to why it is only AH that has been affected by this "spike". I do notice, however, that it is no longer blamed on the IOS update as that has clearly run out of credibility despite your best efforts! FYI it was never really credible as other ISP were not affected and you refused to explain that anomaly.

Now being limited to a very choppy and unstable 4Mb.... can only get that speed if I use a multi-threaded download, otherwise getting timeouts on some international and local websites :(

Been two weeks for me now experiencing shaping on business.

I know afrihost claims it is not shaping, but the experience and end result is identical to what other ISP's call shaping.

I can achieve 20mbps if I use multi threaded http downloads, my nntp never goes above 50% line speed, except when switching to a competitors product.

I really hope they get their **** together.
