Yeah, seriously considering looking at another ISP. Someone more reliable.

Yep, I am trying to get some feedback. These clowns should wake the **** up!! Same **** happened last year after the IOS update, wonder what their damn excuse is now again??

This is what it says on the site:

"We are currently experiencing increased demand in the North region (Johannesburg, Pretoria and surrounding areas). As a result, some users may experience diminished throughput (speeds) on their DSL. Our network team are investigating the issue and will be implementing changes to optimise efficiency to manage demand. We apologise for any inconvenience to affected clients and assure them that we are doing everything possible to improve their internet experience."

Yeah sorry, meant feedback from other ISP's regarding their offerings.

Oh yeah. Need to get good feedback from other ISP's. Will browse through the forum and see what people on other ISP's are saying.

Getting between 4kb/s-9kb/s in the Cape Town area. :-/

I understand problems happen but at least colour them appropriately on the status page and be honest about the severity of the problem and the length this might take to resolve. 7 hours and counting. I think this might require something in the scarlet or crimson palette. That little orange symbol claiming medium severity is simply mocking me now. ;-) Thank goodness I don't have any projects in the morning that need any large data files transferred, is all I'm saying.

From experience I've learnt that there's no such thing as a perfect ISP, and Afrihost is indeed very reasonable in most respects, but this recent bandwidth demand issue is worrisome. A country-wide throttling, well, that should never be necessary, should it?

Yeah there's definitely no perfect ISP. I'm just worried about how Afrihost seem unable to handle the influx. Mine's been slow all day today. Fluctuating between 1/6th and half of normal speed. Downloading takes extremely long and streaming is pointless. I don't generally mind the slow downloads at times as it happens but when I can't stream something I need to then get extremely frustrated and generally takes a lot for me to do so.

Tomorrow Liverpool playing in Champions League, it better be okay by then. Else I'm going to be supremely pissed off.

Me too...also on a 2mb business line. From yesterday evening torrents less than 10kb/s while regular downloads fine

Surprise, surprise, my torrents are back to nearly full speed at this time, the same time as when Afrihost starts to relax shaping on their other accounts (about 10pm-ish) Coincidence ? Me thinks not

Why oh why did I decide to give afrihost another chance by renewing my account after already cancelling it. Won't use this **** isp ever again

What I would love to see, is Gian himself posting here as to why we paying hefty prices each month for a premium product and are guaranteed to have full line speed at all times and never be shaped or throttled on our Business accounts but sitting with this crap.

All we are getting is the usual "Afrihost Handbook Of 100 Excuses" answers....
Careful AH, that book is now on it's last page.

Increased demand on IPC in the North? WTF?

My 20Mbps Business VDSL Line is unusable. Getting exactly 1.33Mbps out off it tonight. Please note the moment I change to the free Web Africa account I get full line speeds. See attached screenshots.

This has been going on for weeks now.

Goodbye Afrihost Business Uncapped. It's been pretty damn good overall, the last month notwithstanding. If this product ever returns to its former glory, I may be back.

And Afrihost won ISP of the Year again...I mean...wtf! Who votes for these things?

The quality and performance of the network of late is horrendous !

That's what I thought too! Obviously the award is utterly useless to the consumer as it has no bearing on reality whatsoever. This ISP is run by a religious nutcase, who probably prays for the ADSL usage to level off rather than actually buy more bandwidth and fix the problem with science.

Sick of this ISP to death.

I demand a mybroadband article about this :-) If you read the last 100 pages of nearly every Afrihost thread, they have clearly dropped the ball, the network is in a shambles..and hosting...yuk

It starts to get very scary when a home uncapped account on another provider starts to outperform the afrihost business accounts.

Morning Guys

I know performance yesterday was pretty poor for many clients. We saw demand rise significantly just before midday. We made some changes to the network to try to immediately improve performance but the impact was not as significant as we had hoped. We've implemented several other changes that will take effect through today and tomorrow. Our technical director is also reviewing the current situation, and based on the data, will make a call on the way forward.

I know that many people are calling for additional capacity, and I just want to remind you guys that capacity is never an overnight solution. We'll need to do research and projections on how much and place orders with Telkom in that regard. So the best thing for now is to focus on what can be done to stabilise performance and offer a consistent experience until we finalise our plans for the longer term.

When I have more information about what is happening, I'll share that with the forums so we're all on the same page.

I really am sorry that we had such a rough day yesterday, I know it must have been fairly frustrating, and I promise that we are not ignoring the situation and are putting our minds and resources towards improving in every way possible.

just remoted in to my downloads, running at 0kbs....... sigh

Edit: still running on 0, so no improvements on my side yet
