This is what it says on the site:
"We are currently experiencing increased demand in the North region (Johannesburg, Pretoria and surrounding areas). As a result, some users may experience diminished throughput (speeds) on their DSL. Our network team are investigating the issue and will be implementing changes to optimise efficiency to manage demand. We apologise for any inconvenience to affected clients and assure them that we are doing everything possible to improve their internet experience."
Getting between 4kb/s-9kb/s in the Cape Town area. :-/
I understand problems happen but at least colour them appropriately on the status page and be honest about the severity of the problem and the length this might take to resolve. 7 hours and counting. I think this might require something in the scarlet or crimson palette. That little orange symbol claiming medium severity is simply mocking me now. ;-) Thank goodness I don't have any projects in the morning that need any large data files transferred, is all I'm saying.
From experience I've learnt that there's no such thing as a perfect ISP, and Afrihost is indeed very reasonable in most respects, but this recent bandwidth demand issue is worrisome. A country-wide throttling, well, that should never be necessary, should it?
And Afrihost won ISP of the Year again...I mean...wtf! Who votes for these things?
The quality and performance of the network of late is horrendous !
That's what I thought too! Obviously the award is utterly useless to the consumer as it has no bearing on reality whatsoever. This ISP is run by a religious nutcase, who probably prays for the ADSL usage to level off rather than actually buy more bandwidth and fix the problem with science.
Sick of this ISP to death.
