I cancelled the service under the clientzone and it says effective 30th June. Please can you arrange for this to be effective midnight 31st May 2015.

Thanks

Just thought I'd chip in from my side - after struggling for a few weeks now..

Symptoms similar to everybody (i just scanned the first and last few pages of this 50+ page thread)

Inconsistent speed - at almost exactly 17:00 throttling kicks in at a grand scale - streaming/p2p/most international sites unusable - can't open gmail - and downloads hover around 3Kb/s-23Kb/s - usually 380+ (very stable 4Mb adsl) Also got asked about traceroutes/dns changes blah blah - and then last night Finally the first honest response!

The support guy mentioned that they have been struggling with this for a while now - but that the results need to go " to the CEO to action anything" -in his words " they/management don't believe us when we say that there is a problem - they say "everything is fine" " - obviously another change/firmware upgrade was done to those "fancy kit that had issues with firmware a few month ago" -

The problem is if effects ALL account types : capped and uncapped - and it's random.

During the problem hours - yesterday from 17:00 -and by 23:00 it was fine again - tried a test account from Crystalweb - everything ran 100%.

Difference on the surface is the one is on the IS backbone, and the other on MTN.

I think it's time the AH management started to take their customers seriously and go back to when something was changed and roll it back.

my 2 cents...

Will be cancelling and try another ISP for few months.

Morning

Really sorry to read about the issues you're seeing here. While I'm the first to admit that things aren't running as well as they should, the experience you're describing above is horrible. I can assure you, that no shaping or throttling exists (in fact, throttling doesn't exist on our network at all) on Business or Capped accounts.

While you're fully entitled to cancel, I'd still like to look at what's going wrong here. Could you drop me a PM with your DSL username and any relevant ticket ref#'s that I can follow up on?

Really sorry to hear you leave :(
Drop me a PM with your account info and I can have a look at what's happening here.

Got your message in the Business thread as well. Are you testing this on Business or Capped?

Sorry. Double posted in error. I watch both threads as you guys have said capped and business are from the same data pool.

Was testing from my business account.

Looks to me like you're connecting from the South. My reports don't show latency from our network in general at that time, but it seems like there is intermittent latency when you hit our network (not terrible but raises a flag for me) and then also when you reach optinet's network. Because I can't see the 2nd hop on the trace, it;s hard to say whether this latency exists before the ISP network. But definitely not seeing packet loss in general like this on any network (even during peak demand).

Are you only seeing this on connecting to this specific IP/server?

It seemly happens on connection to mweb servers. My Teamspeak is hosted on mweb as well as most of the gaming servers i play on that have packet loss... ranging from 10% to 50%.

Yes i am from the south. Also i have the details of the exchange i connect too (The timeout hop) and the stats there of show there are no issues. Please see below from Telkom:

As you can see from the above:
exchange limit is 520Mbps
it does what, 162Mbps max
Thus it is barely using over 25%

So i do not think it is a problem to my exchange. Likewise i have also tried other ISP on different Backbones with 0% Packetloss which tells me it can only be an issue on afrihost side and not my line and/or exchange.

Could you drop me a PM with your DSL username and server info? I'd like to get this passed onto our team to try and replicate the issues from our end.

Why are my speeds so lousy today. I have a 10 meg line and usually download at 600-1024 but today has been absolutely pathetic.

Evening!

That's not cool to hear at all!

On which services are you seeing the reduced throughput at the moment?

Now how did you get that :p

I Know the right people ;) :P

Please introduce me to these people. I think it would be great to have access to this kind of info for clients experiencing congestion. Though, I'm curious when the capacity of the exchange does not match the physical infrastructure/backhaul capacity (in terms of DP's, etc). What device is being measured here? From the BNG in the description, I'm guessing this is a new Broadband Network Gateway (upgraded BRAS) and not the DSLAM or MSAN itself, which explains why the capacity shows as high, when my experience is that various Bellvile exchanges are notorious for being congested.

Would love to know more about what we're actually looking at here :)

No improvment it took 1h26m to download 967mB @ 191kBs. What is it with your service to the South?

Not cool :(
Could you drop me a PM with your DSL username and the content you're having issues with? I'd like to see if I can have this replicated.
