Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Both are correct, in a way, and Afriman used the wrong terminology, but the result is the same.

If your upload bandwidth is fully utilised, uploading a file, other web pages / protocols are unable to send an ACK, back to remote servers so, in turn, they will wait for that ACK or time out and no data will be sent. It will appear as if your downloads die as a result of upload bandwidth but in reality it dies because the handshake failed.

You can mitigate it with shaping locally, and limit upload bandwidth available to any one application, to prevent it using the full bandwidth. An upload manager or something like netlimiter should help if you do a lot of uploads.

Cheers
Chris

:)

This explanation is quite thorough and detailed. I appreciate you sharing it!

Can't log into Battle.net or Smite, my first day of holidays :(
Skype has 84% packet loss, can't hear anything from the other side. Swapping to WebAfrica gives similar problems.
Going to open a line fault if this persists another 40min.

EDIT: yeah, think it is a line fault. Just picked up the landline, sound (german it would be: ch) < cut, sound < cut.

EDIT2: okay. calling is working. A lot of static.

EDIT3: and back to sound < cut. Going to use the online portal.

Can you send me your ADSL line number via PM please, I can also have a quick look.

Hi. Any Afripeep online? I need your urgent assistance please.
Appears to be a messed up VDSL migration that's left me without internet access.
Your call centre say that your Telkom people have left, Telkom business call centre is closed, so it's possible I will be without access to tomorrow if the residential call centre can't resolve.
This isn't acceptable. Someone needs to intervene.
Regards
SD

UPDATE: Okay - so I haven't heard anything back from the call centre however connectivity appears to have been restored. There is however poor throughput on Intl and Local. Local latency of 52ms is also WAY high. Typical is 10ms. All in all - the connection is trash [yeah I'm p!ssed]. Pre the "upgrade" (earlier today) the connection happily hit 8mbps.

Intl: 3.8mbps http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4425639174
Local: 3.7mbps http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4425642665

I'm here :D Let's get this sorted out!
Not sure if the line has become unstable, drop me a PM with your line number and we can take things from there.

Wow! A 100 pages of +- 95% complaints in less than 2 months! This must be a new record!

We're just happy that we can be here to hear our client's feedback and try to bring that back into the company so that our clients are heard. It's what we're here for :)

Anyone else having major international issues with this bandwidth? I am now unable to connect to eu.battle.net or my mail server in amsterdam. Can access it on any other bandwidth.

We just experienced a massive dip in international throughput on our side as well, it does appear to be returning to normal though, would you mind testing in a few minutes again?

Hi!

We did see a drop in international traffic for a moment, it does look to be returning to normal now, can you test again please?

NNTP is dead. Switch to WA and it runs line speed.

Get you shyte sorted AH!

Netflix and Hulu, running off an Unotelly subscirption is refusing to load.

Did the same thing yesterday evening at about 5-6pm, but came right later on, at about 7-8pm

Which News Servers are you using at the moment? Are you seeing zero throughput on all News Servers or only specific ones?

Do you perhaps have any alternative DNS Service that you can test with? I just want to check if the issue is linked to a specific conflict on our network with UnoTelly or DNS services in general.
