[/URL]Looking at my ping stats shows that the wheels started wobbling around 11am today. By 12 they were well and truly off, and currently pings are still increasing. Current ping to Afrihost's own site is 412ms.
I suspect the only people still on Afrihost are the ones "locked" in on legacy packages that are too good a deal to give up. And even that isn't going to last forever. Or they're completely oblivious to how Internet should be. Which is probably 90% of users.
Us tech literates are a drop in the ocean, and complaining here isn't going to reach the right audience.
So why is this not front page news on MyBroadband yet? Time for some investigative journalism and a request for comment from someone "higher up"? (And failing that, who is going to print the banner? ;-))

I'm "shopping" for another ISP as I'm typing this...I'm thinking Webafrica? actually...ANYTHING currently would be better than AH...
Thing is...AfriMan/genie/someone will again come with "Please do a tracert"..."Please do a this/that/whatever"...and come with excuses like they have been over the last couple of weeks...I'm DONE with excuses...I'm DONE being patient...I'm DONE with Afrihost!!

Things are definitely wonky on Afrihost.
I watched a 1080p video on Youtube. Afrihost peaks at ~400KBps. Using my VOX account it went flying at between 750 and 850KBps the whole time.
Speedtests generally don't mean jack shizz because it pretty much always maxes out.

I Have Cancelled, F this crap, cant even play Wow.
Afrihost will remain a legendary memory in South Africa's Internet Landscape but sadly MTN stuffed it all up.
You guys have a lot of work ahead of you to win people's trust again.
And like MOST people say, Update your status page, What a FALSE impression you lot are!!!! always saying you are honest but we see otherwise.

got a normal home capped with Webafrica now and did a speedtest again
edit...my 40mbps vdsl does only sync at 30/3 because of my distance to exchange...so immediately I'm seeing huge improvement over AH...also tested some streaming sommer over youtube...running HD with no buffering.

Yes they are proud of what they offering, they just don't see how cr@ap it is, and think each individual client complaining has a unique problem that's outside their network, hence all the individual requests to test and do trace routes etc forever and a day.
Lol look at their network Status Page. In this forum they even say "Certain Clients" in the south may have issues, but overall all is good.
and its repeated over and over again. Over weekends and public Holidays when nobody is available the next day they will just say, We did see high latency and the "guys" are investigating, also over and over again.
All I can do now is laugh.
