Yip... crap local ping again.... which equates to even crapper int ping....
Download speed still ok it seems

Same for me, cant game nor stream.

Atleast Afrihost is acconologing that there is a problem.

Yeah latency is 169ms local, so high again.

Ya... but zero issues on IS accounts...

Why is the news servers not working on AH until 22:30 it just keeps saying failed to connect paid and AH news server but when i use my webafrica account my paid server is working. i am so tired of this i am on a capped account looks like i have to jump ship after reading this thread just complaints and no answers or any fixes

It seems like the NNTP issue only seems dire when latency is extremely high in the South. Definitely works otherwise as we ran some tests in the North on Friday.

Not sure which region you are posting from, but now we're seeing high latency at different times in all regions so I think that would be the case when your region is affected :(

I'm a bit confused by this explanation.

Axxess is on the same MTN network, and is the same company (wholly owned by Afrihost) in fact.

They have raised the red flag (after delaying like Afrihost) and have issued a notice regarding "network capacity". Do they mean IPC capacity or which capacity could this mean?

ADSL network performance
2015-06-19 14:59:46
We are currently experiencing high network demand which is affecting the performance of some of our ADSL services. Clients may experience slower speeds and higher latency on their accounts at certain times when demand is at its highest.

A high priority project is under way to increase the network capacity nationally. We are unable to provide a timeframe for completion but assure all of our clients that this is receiving the highest priority and that we are doing our utmost best to provide all of our clients with the best internet experience possible while this project is underway. We undertake to keep our clients informed of any timelines and progress as they become available.

We sincerely apologise to all clients affected and we assure you that this is being given the highest priority and all necessary steps are being taken to expedite to completion.

I think the word capacity has been taken to mean IPC but my understanding of the upgrades planned are in terms of performance, user handling, managing capacity, etc. So I think it might be better to think of it as us reviewing our network from the bottom up and making any and all changes we deem necessary to make this the cutting edge high performance network we believe it should be. I don't know if that may include purchasing more capacity for the future, but the entire upgrade is much more comprehensive that chucking on a GB or 2 of IPC.

The right approach but sounds like this is going to take a long time...

Down in CPT things aren't so rosy.

Local speedtests show lower latency (19ms) and better speeds (16mbps) than recently.
Generally expect 13ms and 19mbps down.

International latency is okay however speeds are poor. Maxing out at 8mbps.

It's difficult to say whether that is an issue. Is that a US international test of EU/UK. The problems we are having are local, in terms of demand, but to my knowledge our international links are nowhere close to capacity. We do know that US links traditional perform poorly compared to EU/UK where our WACS and EASSy cables terminate.

The process is already well underway and we've been mentioning it in the most indirect way possible without revealing more that we're allowed to by our senior management. So it's not something that's just started, we're not far from hoping seeing very real actual results - hopefully :)

International Gaming is dead in Cape Town at the moment.

Downloading is fine.

If you're in that high demand window in your region, then gaming could be pretty terrible. We're trying to give gaming the highest priority at the moment, but difficult to do so without employing any kind of shaping, which we absolutely can't do on capped :(

Local ping it definitely going to affect your international ping. As far as I know international links are good right now, so it's definitely the local latency introduced by demand on the network which is affecting overall experience, during those high demand periods :(

Great to hear. Hope springs eternal!

Nntp worked earlier. Now it's dead as a door nail.

Will test it our on our side, but all should be fine if you're not in a high demand period with high latency in general.

Will get AfriGuy to run some tests, he's the local usenet whore ;)
