Browsing ping high and online games in the crapper.
Well I am in Hout Bay so we share the Wynburg switch, here is what I get on 10meg:

But something strange is happening other than speed, I am getting web page not found notices and sometimes page not available, but suddenly it pops up. I think it is very high packet loss rather than speed or latency that is causing it.
I am mainly working with US servers though, trying to source some CPU's with RF capability, so I am stuck with specific servers only with such info. I cant broaden the search to avoid america.
You guys share an exchange at the other side of the mountain?! That makes no sense to me, haha!
Anyway, not the best looking results.
Have you tried switching DNS servers to see if that helps with sites not loading?
I think Hout Bay is seen as a Sub Exchange from Wynburg, all out techs are based there and when it goes down, fortunately a rare occurrence, it takes us down with itwe have 790-791 number range you are 797 ...
What DNS do you suggest, I think I am on the Afrihost DNS at the moment.
Here is the international test

The test to afrihost server was great.
It looks like international is farked.
Well switching to Google DNS certainly seams to have helped:

latency is a bit higher but speeds are much better and Pages loading OK now.
160ms ping to local, what in the actual fsck Afrihost.
WHEN??
WHEN??
Yeah tried to play some counterstrike last night. pinged 170. nice one. my 56k setup back in 1999 pinged 150. This is just retarded. Diablo 3 pings 450. Also unplayable. Ive been plagued by high latency the last couple of months every evening when the congestion on afrihost network increases. I'm too lazy to change ISP so I just laughed it off but it's great that you guys finally admit your network is F**KED. Now I can drop afrihost and move on to another ISP. Cheers.
It's not completely broken, however the experience isn't where it should be. It's definitely something that's being worked on though![]()
But its been months correct? Hugely variable latency entirely dependent on congestion. How is that acceptable
It's not great, I know - and we've been the first to admit that![]()
Well I wished you admitted it sooner, as your network status indicator has been "green" for the most time that I have been having severe issues.
