Yeah. Afrihost Capped account :(

Man... That's not good. That should definitely be better, can you run a quick traceroute to Youtube.com? I just want to make sure you are routing to the correct servers.

Latency 150ms, was 400ms earlier.

Problem is Twitch not YouTube. YouTube is routing to the local cache.

It is routing to the local cache, but the latency should be a lot lower than what it appears to be in the traceroute.

I'm checking with our Team if things are okay in the East at the moment, that latency is definitely the cause.

Seems this thread is somewhat dead today. Still dealing with a horrible connection.

Just out of interest, what are good values to have for line attenuation and SNR Margin. I keep forgetting them.

A minimum of 6 SNR or Telkom's Exchange will keep dropping you, one preferrs about 10+. Attenuation depends on distance.
Also still dealing with a crap connection today, died 4 times in the last two hours due to PPP identifiers.

Difficult to say, remember that dB is a ratio between two values, not an absolute value. But we generally like to see at leat 10-12dB on SNR and the lowest possible value for attenuation, 20's are usually decent or less.

Seems I've just hit the mark then with SNR:

Attenuation Down Stream 32
Attenuation Up Stream 17
SNR Margin Down Stream 6.1
SNR Margin Up Stream 6.0

With that attenuation you should have way better of an SNR.
Have you tried removing all the phones and plugging the modem directly into the wall?

Do you know your approximate distance from the exchange?

I am at 40.9 Attenuation with an SNR of 8.9db.

I had the phone plugged in as well but I've connected the router directly without anything else plugged in and the values are still the same.

SNR Margin Down Stream 6.4
SNR Margin Up Stream 6.0

That seems pretty bad with your attentuation, seems either you have a line fault or your copper has degraded or your modem is faulty. Could you also tell us at what speed you are running? You should be managing 20Mbps with that attenuation.

Also try borrowing someone else's router for a little bit to check if it makes a difference to the stats.

Had the same issue as you. Had 17/8 Attenuation but a 6.1dB SNR at 20Mbs

Line is corroded as **** my man.

My router is brand new. I'm guessing it has to do with the line itself. But also, when it does download at full speed it's consistent so I don't know?

I wanted a 10mbps line but it would only connect at 6mbps so that's what I'm stuck with.

I'd been stuck with a 4Mbps-ish ADSL line for a number of years, and Telkom finally moved us to a new Exchange less than a kilometer away, so I guess Telkom will get around to upgrading each of us eventually.

Mine was 4Mbs from the days it was called Telkom Fastest.
When they supposedly upped all the lines to 10Mbs mine never went higher than 6 and stayed that way for a couple of years, but with the recent software upgrade it is now a rock solid 10 Mbs Down 1024 Kbs up so I guess the equipment / software used plays as large a part as the distance and copper condition some times.

Most definitely something wrong with the line then. Either corroded or line fault. You could try just ordering a new line and then cancelling the old one once it is installed?

First make a Telkom tech come out and check though.

:(

So many gigs, and buggerall that I can do with it.
Trying to watch a Youtube video in 720p but at 150-200KB/s there's not much I can do except wait for it to buffer every five seconds.

Trying to use 120GB in one day due to trip to Europe tomorrow for a month, ran out of things to get after 30.
