yes... 50% packet loss to our Arma server.... it did sort of stabilize eventually... but made gaming ***.

Doesn't look great at all. Weird cos I know latency is normally horrible in the evening, but the reports show that it was actually pretty decent for all regions by the evening :(

Rather Pathetic
so what you guys saying is you not buying more IPC.
you just going to tweak the network, steal a little here to put there and throttle and shape certain protocols so it runs fine.
what a JOKE!!
:mad::mad:

That's not what we're saying at all. We believe we've outgrown the current network and need to build something from the ground up (which includes buying IPC capacity) which we can customize to deliver a unique experience. This way we can ensure that the services we expect to be priority, like gaming, VoIP, VPN and terminal services, really can always perform well whether there is high demand or not. We'll obviously have to learn more as we go, but this will definitely be an upgrade all round - not just tweaks or small changes. It's pretty much a complete overhaul of software, hardware and how the entire network will route and aggregate traffic.

telkom or other?

Telkom.
Has to be Telkom to use with Afrihost.
Works perfectly on my backup account. Was working fine with Afrihost a few weeks ago.

Ok makes sense. Yeah, speeds are pretty sucky :(

Have you signed up to trial our new network? Would be great to get some fibre user's feedback as well.

Yeah I'll sign up.

Yeah I'll sign up.

We don't currently have any fibre offers with other providers, but we're hoping to in the future.

I've added the link to my signature so you can submit your username for a username on the new network (when it's ready for client testing).

But, But... this current MTN network Afrihost kark has * nothing * to do with IPC remember!

Really... we have been told this... again, and again, and again, and again, and again...

Hi Guys

I am currently on the verge of cancelling my ADSL and going to a WISP. This would mean I will also cancel my Telkom line as I am using it only for the ADSL at the moment.

I have a bundled account with Afrihost, so I will need to get AH to first transfer the line back to Telkom before I can give them, Telkom, notice. There was a post in this forum earlier (on the 18th of last month I recall) saying that if we do a transfer of the line, the ADSL will be down for '3-4 days' while the transfer is happening. Typically I do not want this to happen while/if I am still on the ADSL.

So, do we have any clarity on how this process well happen yet? Anybody that have gone through it since the 19th of June?

Thanks

Telkom have split their retail division off as an ISP and I understand that with the new system, we can transfer lines directly from ISP to ISP. However, because the new system requires that the line go into a "migration pool" between the releasing and receiving ISP, if the line is in that pool for over 48 hours the line is soft suspended (no DSL). The receiving ISP must claim the line, or it will remain in that migration pool. So essentially you must cancel with your current ISP, and then ensure that you have signed up with a new ISP and they are ready to claim the line from the migration pool. It's possible that there is no downtime if the process is followed correctly.

The problem currently with moving lines back to Telkom is that it seems like some of their consultants are not aware of the process. Clients have managed to find people within the call centres, etc who do understand and have moved the line over to Telkom Retail (who is now like an ISP client of Wholesale).

Woah, that latency seems very high :( Is the same reflected in a traceroute?
