Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

I'd love to give you a timeframe, unfortunately I can't :(

I know, just downgraded my account from my 4meg business line to R29 for 8gigs until my line gets transferred.

Not your fault Afriguy. Just doing your job but I just want decent adsl. Just signed up to Webafrica. Hopefully they will give better service.

Better....

Do we get static or dynamic IP addresses on capped accounts?

Those results are awful :( Have you been able to run any troubleshooting with our team to see if the experience can be improved at all?

Have engaged in Online Chat twice.

They don't even pretend that there is something to troubleshoot. They just regurgitate the standard response. "Our engineers are working on it etc etc..".

Will Afrihost be offering Pro-rata discounts? I have the Ookla speedtest logs to back it up.

I totally understand. I do believe that either way we'll see improvement before that change goes through, whether you move to the POC networks or just stick around when we move a chunk of demand away from the current network. Since you're keeping 8GBs, maybe submit your name to be part of the test - would really appreciate the feedback.

Better....

Latency in the East has been one area where we've really battled, but we're hoping to see some improvement when we move some users over to the POC networks. But glad it did improve - we're generally seeing latency get bad around midday :(

Another night of half line speed :(

getting 190-215kB/s on my 4mb/s :(

Sorry about the poor experience. We're generally seeing latency improve, especially in the South, but throughput is still poor when demand is high. We'll see a change when we move some users over to the POC networks, so whether you decide to test the new network, or stick where you are, you should see better. I'd really encourage people to sign up for the testing though - my own experience so far has been pretty amazing. Great speed, and very consistent.

Do we get static or dynamic IP addresses on capped accounts?

That is something we would like to offer, but we'll only focus on new offerings when we have everything bedded down.

So IP's will be dynamic for the moment. Capped accounts have always been limited to dynamic IPs and only Business DSL offers static IP service for an additional R50 per month.

Will Afrihost be offering Pro-rata discounts? I have the Ookla speedtest logs to back it up.

I don't know what the approach will be, but we've always followed problems like this with some sort of process to give back to clients, whether it's mystery bonuses or discounts. I can't give a commitment on that though. As far as Accounts, they would always treat each application on a case by case basis.

I am tired of struggling with you guys.
Have given you a fair chance, much more than I gave Internet Solutions and CrystalWeb.

So from the end of the month, if it should happen I owe you money, according to you, I am going to play your own game right back at you.

Fair enough. We bill in advance, so if you have cancelled this month you won't owe us anything.

There we have it folks, they don't care about losing a customer... Totally oblivious to the fact that customers, such as us, pay their salaries...

Ha ha.. Neotel? Really... you're considering Neotel? Its almost like youre trying to lose clients...

We always care about losing a client, but we also let clients make up their own minds. I've seen the comments you've posted on Gian's thread and other forum discussions, I believe you have all the facts to make up your mind. Either way, I am sure you will make the right choice for you :)

Ha ha.. Neotel? Really... you're considering Neotel? Its almost like youre trying to lose clients...

Please bear in mind that we're not simply exchanging providers. Our new POC networks will have multiple players for routing, peering and aggregation. Neotel is just one piece of those puzzles. I really want to encourage anyone not to let preconceived ideas cloud their experience. Try out the network, kick the tyres, smash your cap, and then decide for yourself.

Things should be running OK at the moment. Latency seems pretty solid at the moment. What are you seeing?

The usual quality MTN IPC optimised network tanking... slower than dialup. Not bothered to speedtest or tracert or what not, just changed ISP and all good again.
