^^ This...

Just say it like it is... MTN gave you a fat toffee and now you need to get a new upstream provider.

It's not true though. MTN are our shareholders, they would not agree to anything that was not in their interest. Ultimately, they believe, like we do, that this is the next step in our evolution as a service provider, which is ultimately good for them in the long term.

Not sure what you're suggesting here, given the timelines. Happy to hear you out - as always :)
Proactive means identifying potential customer impacting conditions before they impact customers and putting appropriate measures in place to minimize impact.
Reactive means waiting until it's broken before looking for solutions. This is what you guys are doing right now.

I don't think one can be completely pro-active on a network this size. I also think you're assuming that we don't have any pro-active measures in place, and that there are no issues that were mitigated before they impacted clients or were noticed - which is not the case. We've done a lot of work with traffic management especially that has never been mentioned.

I think that's pretty vague, I was looking for practical steps in terms of what happens now, which I am happy to feed back to the team.

Not sure why your account is not loading at all - are you authenticating normally? I can check this out for you :(

AfriMan, is is authenticating but throughput is dial-up speed. Just like yesterday... and the day before, and Sunday... speedtest did not load.

So, thanks for the offer tho'.

A fix for this Afrihost MTN IPC shortfall is not to use Afrihost MTN ADSL... this is the only solution that seems to work consistently.

I'm talking philosophically (and responding to your comment about being more reactive).
When you started doing lots of traffic management, it should have been apparent that there were capacity issues. At that point, you should either have invested in new capacity, or stopped taking on new signups, or shed heavy users off the network or move them to a more expensive product. That would have been proactive. Putting a plaster over the bone fragment sticking out of a compound fracture isn't proactive, it's trying to treat the symptom without addressing the underlying cause.
As for what happens now - sure, you're pretty much doing all you can to fix things, and a new network on different, diverse providers is probably a great thing, but I don't know that you're doing enough to make things right by your subscribers.
Rollovers or refunds should not even be questioned.

Anyway, just talking as a spectator here. You're free to ignore/dismiss or take on board as you see fit, I have no dog in this fight :)

I think something else is happening here, here's a speedtest from my place in Wynberg, CPT.
Open to troubleshoot with you.

Just want to pipe in here before I do the Wacky Wednesday thing :)

I think there has to be a mix of reactive and proactive. One can't expect to test every configuration, permutation or set of circumstances, even with a massive team dedicated to that sort of thing. I also think being reactive (in a good way) means being agile enough to respond quickly to challenges and changes, rather than assuming everything is OK until it's not.

I'm no business guru, I leave that to Gian and the Directors, but I trust them to work with the numbers and find a way to reward our clients who stick by us somehow they have always managed to do this in the past in some way or another. Despite the growth of the team, nobody beats Gian in the ideas department, so I know he'll have that covered.

But I'm glad that we agree on the way forward for now. Having tested the network myself (granted, with not much traffic on it) I think it's literally the best internet experience I have ever had. The possibilities for the future are also much brighter, in terms of how we can customise how we handle certain traffic like video streaming so that it's awesome, and have more direct relationships with peering networks to ensure the best performance. I think that will address a lot of concerns we're still carrying.

This is utterly ridiculous. Canceling my account today. I can't deal with this anymore. Should I go with Crystal Web or Vox?

Sorry to hear :( Is there anything I can follow up on for you in the mean time?
Happy to run through some troubleshooting.

I'm done. I've been a loyal customer for years and things have gone from good to bad to worse to infuriating. I've just signed up with Crystal Web. You'll be seeing a cancellation soon.

EDIT: Cancellation done.

I've found you just have to move where there aren't any issues for awhile - then when they start - move again - no point fighting about it on the forum - it just goes in circles.

Came in today - saw the isssues have been going on awhile - cancelled... when sorted, I might come back when the next ISP goes belly up.
