Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

I must say that in the past 12 months I've had some pretty dismal service from some ISPs, but this current level of service from Afrihost really takes the cake.

Nothing has improved in the week and a half I've been a (re)subcriber.

Only positive is that I'm sure I'll qualify for the double-money-back-guarantee when I cancel this garbage.

10mbp/s, Cape Town, can't even stream a YouTube in 720p. Afrihost sucks if you're in Cape Town, bottom line.

Well the whole Eastern Cape and Western Cape run to the same IPC, so you can just imagine the extend of the problem! I'm in the Garden Route and is also experiencing what you get.

Bolded part is your issue. Looks like congestion. You shouldn't really be getting anything over 20ms there. Open a line fault with Telkom.

THANKS FOR THAT! How do you know which traces to look for to ID the problem?

You think so? May I remind you that the tourist season is upon us and CPT will have twice the usual number of residents from Nov - Mar? All those tourists wanna skype home, send photos and videos and do all that stuff that tourists do. And they aren't used to sloppy South African "service". Well, maybe if Eskom gives us enough load shedding and nobody can use electronics anyway you'll be spared the worst ambush.

I mentioned in another thread that we're still learning that the South's traffic trends are very different to other regions. This would be another factor unique to the South. We'll definitely factor that into our network planning.

Thanks for the heads up ;)

You should have a decent grip on the state of your network. There is clearly still something wrong, and yet you are still trying to pass it off as normal ?

Please have some respect for your customers, we are not idiots, we know when we are being sold a pack of lies.

I don't think we intend any disrespect to clients. We try to give as much information as possible here based on the info we have. I think though that if you ask us a question, but then call us liars because you don't like the answer, we're not going to get anywhere. We trust that the information you give us is correct and I think it's only fair that you extend some faith to us that the information we provide is true and accurate (at least to the best of our knowledge). Sometimes we do make mistakes or learn of some things after the fact, but our history of interaction on this forum for several years should prove that we have always been as transparent as possible, even when we've screwed up.

Great after a week, still not any better!

10Mb/s line running at 5.29Mbp/s on Afrihost and on iTNT 8.74Mbp/s!!

Ping statistics for 197.242.144.102:
Packets: Sent = 47, Received = 46, Lost = 1 (2% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 59ms, Maximum = 1872ms, Average = 142ms
Control-C
^C

That looks pretty poor. Latency seems to be all over the place. Did you run full traces so we can see where those pings are spiking in the routing?

Mine is also not doing so well... 10Meg line.

Definitely not great there. We're still seeing some diminished throughput in the South but overall it does seem to have improved. Now that major changes have been rolled out, we should be fine tuning to see if there are additional areas where we can manage traffic better.

Stop lying. Nobody is buying the "Increased Demand" lies ! You know what is going on and you are refusing to tell us because you think your customers should be treated like ignorant little retarded children.

I think looking for a conspiracy behind this is just not really gonna help anyone. This is what's happening, and we'll only start finding solutions when we get on the same page.

10mbps line running at about 50% of capacity in Cape Town. Not the end of the world, better than last week, but still not exactly fantastic.

We're definitely seeing better results, but I do see that some clients are not quite back to normal.

We'll keep working on this and I'm sure that we'll get performance back to what we expect.

I don't think we intend any disrespect to clients

LOL !!!! so funny. On a more serious note, first step to not being disrespectful is to not disrespect. Seeing as you clearly sidestepped this fundemental part the rest is kinda irrelevant.

I don't think I disrespected you in any way, although you've clearly accused myself and my colleagues of being dishonest and deceitful. If you want to work this out, I'm available on PM. Posting the same information on all our threads is not really helping, in my personal opinion :(

Ok something strange is going on with our internet. I've used the Telkom Guest account for the saix speedtests and only the Rosebank server seems to work correctly. Also the Afrihost account is also performing poorly. What is going on?

This can't be exchange related since the Rosebank speedtest is doing ok...

It could be related to Telkoms network, if there is load on their test servers or internal routing issues.

Really hard to say :(

Ah, trying to point fingers again, cant you blame the iOS users again ? that worked so well last time ...

I think it helps allot if I'm trying to put you out of business.

Dude... chill.

You are becoming noise and whatever relevance you might have to these issues is being drowned by your spammy side-swipes.

Take a break... step away from the forum for 5 minutes.

Think before you type... keyboard insta-rage does not accomplish much in the end and just aggravates everybody eventually.

This looks like it could be congestion or possibly a line fault. We'll only be able to confirm when we troubleshoot. If you get the same 2nd hop ping on another network, like Telkom, then we'll know it's definitely the exchange or the line :(
