Have to agree with everyone too say that something major is wrong at Afrihost.

Speedtest - 40Mbps VDSL

Less than 25% of my line speed available to me. Paying Telkom for the premium connectivity, but have hardly seen anything of it since I bumped up my line speed 2 months ago.

Looking at the status page it's mentioned that:

We’re receiving reports from some clients in the North, South and East regions experiencing slow speeds on their DSL connections. Our technical team are investigating incoming queries to determine the possible cause. We apologize to affected clients and assure them that we will continue to work towards improving their internet experience.

I would say that this not just some clients.. I would say most clients... If you look at the page you also see that all the regions are Orange, which also would hint that the whole Afrihost ADSL network are "broken".

The injured but ok status must maybe also be upgraded too "Open Heart surgery with poor prognosis of survival" <- Stormie thanks for that quote.

I guess I must now also start looking at alternatives for my ADSL connection like most of you guys. Can't pay for something and Not get it.

5mbps. 10mbps sync on 20 bundle. I know I can only achieve 50% of line speed paid for, but when I get half of that something is seriously wrong.

EDIT: 5.46mbps down and 0.84mbps up is locally within Cape Town. To vienna: 2.32mbps down and 0.56mbps up.

Same problem... Again (and again and again and again). After months of this, I'm convinced it will never change.

Richards Bay - Durban seems fine now. This is on a 14Mbps line but also streaming a 720p youtube video so it's back to normal I would say for me.

Maybe MTN has started to turn the screws tighter for profitability.

run some more tests folks, there is nothing wrong with Afrihost.

Ya'll be blowing hot air

Well it is just a handful of us after all.

But at least the status page was downgraded following this mornings exchange of comments, it should never have been upgraded to start with.

and tomorrow morning when you all told to run tests, you know what? it will all be fine

coz the demand is NOW... not tomorrow morning!

Receiving port error. Cant even connect. An fault log has been created. That just after i recreated the port to try improve line speed.

How is this;

I ask Afrihost online via Twitter if anything is wrong, they say no, they'll make some changes to my line and I should be able to reconnect.
Nothing works.
So I go home from Somerset West to Cape Town (because I'm concerned my PC has crashed or something) and find my Afrihost account to be DOA - but my OpenWeb account works.
I call Afrihost and they say yes, there is a problem.

WTF!
Why didn't they tell me that earlier before I drove 50km!
