The decision as to whether or not Double Data for Mobile and Capped users will end has yet to be made by our Directors, so I wouldn't take it as an automatic given that it will end just because of Plus+ being launched.

So I would honestly not start planning now with the assumption that Double Data is going to end.

This seems pretty convincing.....

- Double Data of either ADSL or Mobile Data guaranteed whether or not our Double Data promotions end on the 31st of December (we're desperately trying to keep them going, but there is a good chance we may have to end the promotions - we'll let you know either way within the next week or so)

Hi AfriGenie,

Did you see this post:

It was a serious question, I understand if you need time to test it but I would hate to sign up again only to find that DRM still requires a network Connection for offline play.

I definitely did see it! I just tested on my Samsung S4 with the Simfy app installed, I download a complete album for offline play. And after disabling my Mobile Data connection and WiFi, I was able to play the entire album without any problem. Just to be sure I closed the app completely, re-opened it, and I was still able to play with album without any sort of internet connection.

Not set in stone as yet... :)

Thank, AfriGenie, that is good to hear, pun not intended.
Now I know that if I do go with PLUS+ I can get some value off the Simfy deal too.

Well then I don't understand why Afrihost is launching their + product, if its not even certain if the double data deal is going end. If the deal doesn't end, what would be the point of have the + deal?

And if you do have the + deal, and you had the double data... do you get to double your double data? :whistling:

It would depend on how the Double Data is kept and structured going forward. The Double Data with Plus+ is just a part of the overall package itself., the other benefits are slightly more worthwhile at the moment in my opinion.

I would have voted NO if it was disclosed that Double Data had the possibility of being ended. Guess il be looking for the next cheapest per Gig provider.

There was always the possibility of Double Data ending, and neither has it been confirmed that Double Data will end or continue.

Well I just crunched the numbers and decided that if I do stay with Afrihost it is worth my while moving to PLUS+ even though I voted against it.

I am currently on a 120GB package and have, to the best of my knowledge, never actually exceeded that so my Double Data is wasted anyway. I also have a 2GB+2GB 3G bundle, that is a complete waist of time as I never get anything other than GPSM speeds out of it, and I get 1Gig of 3G with the phone.

Total cost R620.00

If I switch to a 60 Gig package with PLUS+ and cancel the rest I will still have the 120Gig that I need for normal consumption and 1.5Gig for use on 3G.

Total Cost R179.00

And I can even try Simfy again at no risk.

If there are many like me who are not actually using what they pay for Afrihost could be losing a lot of income on this new deal.

It is too late to cancel the accounts now, but by next billing cycle I will know if I wish to stay with afrihost and if double data will still exist in the new year. Either way it's time to consolidate and stop being so generous to Afrihost :)

Meh, email from Gian

With our Double DSL Data and Double Mobile Data promotions set to end on the 31st of December,
this is a great way to lock in those benefits going forward and continue your data savings.

So, it is official then.

A quick billing question. Are we billed in advance or arrears?

In the Client Zone when you select change package it says "I understand that this change will only take effect on 1st Dec 2014" but if I have already been billed for December shouldn't the change only take effect on 1st Jan 2015?

All Billing is done in advance on our system, so payments on the 1st of December are for the coming month of December.

So if I change to a 60Gig package now I have payed for 120Gig as the billing cycle has closed, but will only get 60Gig allocated for December?

Jeez I got another unwanted marketing email!!

At least this one had an unsubscribe link, maybe this time they'll stop sending me stuff I don't want.

That's right.

During the month, you can upgrade the Capped account or switch to Uncapped with immediate affect, our system will then just process a pro-rata payment for you.

So if I were to Downgrade from 120 to 60 now would I receive a pro-rata credit on the 1st of January?

No, you will only be billed for the 60GB package from the 1st of December if you were to request the downgrade now. Downgrades and changes from Uncapped to Capped only take affect from the first day of the new month.

But the New Month has already been processed so I will have effectively already been charged for 120 but only allocated 60, if I am understanding you correctly, so If I downgrade on the 2nd I will still receive the 120 for December but then only be Billed for 60 the next month ?

There is a bit of window after the 25th of the month for downgrades to still be processed. If you request the downgrade now, you should receive a revised invoice and have your package change be effective from the 1st of December.

Thanks, I think I may as well go ahead and do it, I have nothing really to lose as I am only using 120Gig and there is a possibility I can save cash for a couple of extra beers at Christmas :) Or buy some top up gigs if I have messed up my calculations.
