He sent out a subsequent email that you probably didn't get yet:

So it looks like it is now dropped.

EDIT:
Ok that is proof that 40Meg is faster than 10Meg :)

Afrihost support told me that if I want to keep my double data (20+20), i'll have to sign up for Afrihost plus which will cost an ADDITIONAL R99. I only need the data and won't use the other services, so I'm not willing to pay R188 for 40gig of data.

I need to find another ISP now.

I had a bad patch from 8:30 to 10PM but not as bad as the total outages from 5 to 11PM we used to have,

Seems like our tests also seemed to be not as good as they could be, and we've given feedback to the team for the to keep looking into this. We'd ideally like realtime streaming to be excellent at all times.

I can understand if you're not keen on the additional benefits of Plus, but please remember that Double Data was set to end, and we had already extended it once from September (at a cost of a good few million rand in data given away).

To simply add on 20GB (at the current price) would be R89, so it makes sense to consider an extra R10 for the same benefit (as well as free Mobile Data and 2 for 1 topups guaranteed)

10% packet loss last night trying to play League of Legends.

Nothing more annoying than after a long day wanting to sit down and jam a game or two and then having to watch everything on your screen teleport and lag out

I notice a lot of talk about the double data being cancelled and afrihost reps say no. If you read Gian email he says in there that although it has not been finalised it doesn't look good for double data.

Double Data is still guaranteed until the end of the year, as advertised. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee that it will be extended further, though we'd love to do this if we could.

For the moment, we have not confirmed whether the promo will be extended or revised. And remember there is also no reason to expect that we won't run it again in the future, but it will never be guaranteed except on Plus membership.

That definitely sucks.

Where are you seeing the packet loss in your routing?

Hmmmm ... in the email I received today, Gian says;

I think it is clearly stated there, it ends 31st December.

I think he's saying the general promo is only guaranteed until the end of the year, so we it was set to end unless it was extended or revised.

We will definitely confirm if that is the case, closer to the time.

I see Axxess is also running a double data promotion. Hopefully it will still be running for 2015 so that I can switch to them as my new ISP.

Afrihost logic: I log a fault saying that my DSL line is syncing but accounts aren't authenticating and I get the following response:

"The mobile data package that you currently have has been capped hence you are not able to connect."

:wtf:

Ouch - ok, not our finest hour :(

We've been receiving reports like this since yesterday and seems to be linked to some problems Telkom are having on their network, though we've been struggling to get confirmation on this.

Are you still getting this on your side?

I think other promos is also for a limited time. Unless you're wanting to switch ISP's every couple of months, you may want to consider Plus as an option to make sure you get Double Data for life.

Totally up to you though :)

I picked it up on teamspeak.

Didn't bother doing a traceroute on it, but also noticed that youtube etc were buffering, was after 9 so i just turned in for the evening.

Will test again this evening

I might be miss reading this. Isnt it R89 for the 20gb and then an additional R99 for double data?

I really hope you guys look to perhaps add some additional packages that are only data related.

Cause like most of us here we just want data so R188 for 40gb is really expensive, where I see its about R40 cheaper elsewhere.

AH+ might actually be a success for the most of your client base that aren't reliant on just data. So all im asking is to remember the data only minority, because AH+ has basically alienated us...

Afrihost price is already on my neck, still 31st December the double data will be canceled, and have to pay additional R99 per/month to get the double data, and other service of Afrihost Plus+ that I don't use. Sorry Afrihost I'm looking into other ISP.

I don't think alienating anyone is part of the added extras or anyones intention :)

Guess we will find out at the end of December whether or not we will be jumping ship. I'm definitely not paying R100 more for a service where I only want the double ADSL capped data.

I've been very happy with Afrihost for the last couple of months and will hate to move to another ISP.

I've been streaming Twitch (high) and YouTube (1080p) this evening (6Mbit line).

Can do source on Twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/dotastarladder_en) with a little bit of buffering. The thing is that it really shouldn't be buffering though... The bandwidth maxes out at 3300kbps. YouTube goes all the way up to ~5200kbps for me. Meh, guess you can't have it all. It's 1000x better than what it's been the last two months so I'm happy for now ^^

The later it got the worse it got for me.
At 22:00 i couldnt even stream Mobile quality (140p afaik) without buffering every 10 seconds then buffer for another 10 seconds.
This is on a 10Mb line, Capped account.
Youtube 1080p no problems.
