Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Remember that Feb is a short month, so 28 days, vs 31 days, means that the calculated daily per GB rate is higher than it would be in a longer month.

Also, at the end of the day, you only pay for 45GB, and not the full 50GB price, so you always get the full value for your money.

Yes as you say, I get what I paid for, but I wanted 50 gigs and not 45 and am quite prepared to pay that.
The price is not the problem, it's the mathematics.
For me now to have 50 gigs, I need to top up 5 gigs for R145 (5 x 29), making my 50 GB package R322 :(

Well let's see how your data usage goes for now. Maybe you won't need the extra data just yet :)

So basically if and when I upgrade to the 75 or 100 GB package I must do it before the end of the month and not early the next month :)
It's just good for people to know these things.

PATHETIC Service --RESOLVED

I posted a similar story on hellopeter.com. I was shortly thereafter contacted by a representative of Afrihost. The issue was resolved and my line was reinstated (and credited with 20gb extra!).

Thanks you for attending to this issue.

I was told that my 75g account was capped. I disputed this since I know my usage patterns. Further investigation of the logs revealed that I consumed an astounding 69g in 30min yesterday! Awesome, I wish I had such a fast line.

I tried numerous attempts at correction this with no luck. This is my 4th call, and I'm still holding. One support person said that I must pay first then they'll unlock my line!

I have in my account settings set that I should get notified at various levels of usage via both email and SMS. None of these were received. There clearly seems to be an issue with the billing and recording of my usage, but yet no one has the ability or possibly the authority to help me get an answer.

This is the kind of service I don't expect from a multiple winner of best ISP.

UPDATE: 5th call, the words are: "I'm putting you through to my Manager", and then the phone just riiiiings....CLAP CLAP. All potential Afrihost Costumers take heed....useless service here.

UPDATE: Online web based support not connecting at the moment

Oh, and another thing....the online support system doesn't connect....sigh

UPDATE: 6th Call Putting you through to my manager...ring ring. "The person at extension blah blah not available"

UPDATE: 7TH CALL...let's see if a manager picks up. Nope.....no manager

Now that you have had a billing run for March are there going to be changes to your capped prices?

Anyone else have issues streaming YouTube? Most of the videos I watch buffer / download half way, and then stops. Very frustrating! 50gb / 4mb / Durbanville Cpt.

I hope not.
Better performance > better prices.

Capped is supposedly unshaped so what better performance would you be hoping for? On the capped accounts I am looking for them to beat what @lantic and WebAfrica are offering if I were to consider using Afrihost.

Hey bees, I had the same problem a month or so a go.
It has nothing to do with your connection but with your browser, my YouTube or torrents are as smooth as silk on same package.
If you are using chrome then goto chrome://plugins/ and check things there.
Do a search on google for the problem and you'll find the answers.

Pathetic speeds on a 2mbps line at 23:00 at night.

Had better speeds during the day. So much for unshaped capped accounts.

EDIT: At 04:00, it's back to normal.....

I must say I am really chuffed to be back on AH. Even if it is capped, at least it works when the sun is up!!!! :D

Not really, if you do it on the first or second day of the month, your pro-rata adjustment will be really minimal :)

We're glad you were able to get assistance. Bet you didn't know that you were talking to AfriGirl ;)

She says she hopes you enjoyed your swim :)

I'm hoping that it will be this month, but I know we're still negotiating with MTN. Let's hope we don't have to wait much longer - just take comfort that the longer that we wait, the more awesome the deals would be - cos I'm sure our directors are holding out for the very best prices :)

As far as I know realtime throughput should be excellent and this is a capped account I assume.

What does your throughput look like on your line?

That's very odd. Have you run any further tests, like our Network Test App, so that we can see where the problems might originate?

I ran the Network Tester, you'll have to explain to me in Layman's terms if you see any issues.

Here's the results:

I see big jumps in latency and timeouts, that could indicate packet loss on your line. See where I have marked in red.

There could be congestion or a line fault happening here :(
