Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Thanks for the response. I understand the company line, and really like the sound of it. Was hoping for the recent real world experiences of fellow Cape Town residents, as I'm still seeing a few niggles being posted. Would like to understand if these are the exception rather than the norm.

Thanks.

For me, based in PE, the service is great. 40mb line and other than the odd hiccup with the CT IPC I've had no issues. No shaping, excellent latency etc.

That said, I don't torrent much. More Youtube, VoIP, HTTP, Gaming etc. When I do torrent seems to be more than adequate but not much long term stats on that.

EDIT: reading the other posts, I haven't reset my DSL for days so not affected by authentication problem. Mine still connected.

Please tell use when authentication is fixed. My router won't authenticate my afrihost account.

No problems here in CPT since the IPC situation was rectified.
Apart from that short period the experience before and after has always been exceptional.

Geez, this packet loss is getting ridiculous. Afriman has all the capacity been deployed now?

Yes it has, but whatever is happening with auth could be affecting our reporting and causing latency in other areas. I think we'd need to clear this issue before we could really test effectively :(

Please be aware that there are some authentication issues on the network at the moment.
MTN ,and by extension Afrihost, have become synonymous with authentication issues.Just becoming an all too often occurrence.
Quite ironic that my back-up ISP was not working when I needed it to.

Sorry to hear that your back up was also down. I think all ISPs have their fair share of technical glitches - especially when a network grows to the size of ours. But I've found that we're generally getting better at solving them faster and they are becoming fewer and further between issues. Considering that we're learning all the time how to manage our own network, I think we're on the right path for a much better track record in this regard.

Have to disagree.Afrihost was my primary ISP for quite a number of years but I've seen a slow deterioration in connectivity. If it's not authentication issues then it's problems with IPC.Just seems to be happening too often.

I never experienced this level of service when Afrihost were on the IS network. The one positive is having you on the forum to assist with issues though.Oh and also for getting rid of that nincompoop who used to continually throw his toys....

Thanks for the compliment. I'll pretend I don't know who you're talking about.

I honestly do believe we are on the right track. We're doing a lot more in the management of the network (and learning as we go) and we're also making better products (I never liked the throttle system we had).

I guess time will tell, but I have faith in our team and in our directors who made the decision (after LOTS of research)

Of course now it connects ..now that my bandwidth has expired which I just topped up last night to take me through the evening.
Not cool.

you guys probably keep statistics so please share how many phone calls, tickets and sms' you got related to this :P I'm gonna guess a crap load?

Lost data?

In other news. If you are on a 150gig + 150gig, should it not show 300gig remaining?

Not that I'm complaining but I lost 10gb last night due to not being able to connect to Afrihost.

Regarding the double data, it shows up as 300gig.

Thought as much. Mine shows 150 with magical use of 2gb. I've only downloaded 250 megs for 1st...
