You are too far from the exchange.

I posted my line statistics and I am syncing at 10mb :P I did have 10mb speeds for a week, but now its completely dropped and I cannot watch netflix etc. These words from my aunt.

It could have fluctuated, the busier the area gets the more the stats/ copper can worsen :(

I had an issue changing my password for a new capped data package. I got the package to get my full line speed after the upgrade and cancelled it immediately so it's only active until the end of the month.

I used the new clientzone to change my password and struggled over 2 days to connect, didn't matter how many times I changed the password. I then tried changing it in the old clientzone and got an error "can't change password on cancelled package". I then tried my original password and great it works.

My issue however is the crappy support I got. Get an email asking me which account I'm talking about even after specifying it, this wastes a day as I only get to read the mails at night. I then notify them of the issue only being told that I need to go to the new zone and change the password there. Duh, that is what I did. Would be great if support people actually read the emails sent to them.

Alright. I've decided that the new bundled deals are too good to refuse so I'll be switching over to that.

Question is how do I go about doing that? I'm currently on a Closer 4 or 5 bundled plan so I assume I'll first have to unbundle that before I can do anything?

Edit: Nvm I've submitted a ticket

Sorry that we didn't give you the best support in this particular instance. However we do have all this information in ClientZone to assist you. Sounds like there may have also been confusion here - cos if you changed your password in ClientZone successfully your old password should never have worked.

But if you're all sorted out now - that's awesome :)

I'm a bit confused cos those are Telkom bundles? Are you moving over to a Capped bundle?

PM me :)

Those Telkom bundles don't exist anymore, so I find it weird that Telkom has left people on those. I used to be on Closer 4/5, which was turned into a Telkom Unlimited + DSL line (two separate products).

@Kwerty
The Telkom Unlimited is like R350pm and includes your analogue line rental and unlimited landline calls (24/7) and the normal Closer perks.

Hiya all,
Just wanted to stop in a say well done Afrihost.
Massive improvement in stability. Been running troublefree 10mbps for the past couple of months.
Great stuff.
Rgds,

Right, so i am now in the market for a capped account. Just so tired of the cr@p that gets spouted everytime i have an issue with speeds and reliability, just flippin over it. I have a 1 gig free with Afrihost, got it when it first was offered, and that 1 gig per month is a saviour. i still top-up regularly as well, even though i have uncapped. I do understand intermittent problems, and the such, but generally speaking, would the 1 gig free and subsequent top-ups run similarly to the say 100gig capped account?

Yes, definitely - these are composed of the same rule set and provisioning. The only difference is that the Free GB is locked to a single line and a general Capped account will accept up to 10 incoming concurrent connections.

You should have an identical experience :)

Fantastic. Have given notice to current isp, and will be back with Afrihost. Many thanks.

I have a 100+1Gig data only package with Afrihost and now want to bundle the ADSL line. Why must I change the package from 101Gig to a Bundled 100Gig?

Why do I loose the 1Gig - whats the reason?

Go to the old clientzone, go to "My bundles" and bundle it :)
Or you can ask Afri<person>.

Yeah - I was on the New Client zone when it came to the point of having to change packages - was just wondering why the difference and need to drop the +1Gig (its not the 1 Gig I am worried about - but why does the package change)

Sorry about only jumping in here now.
The package difference comes with our last price and data review of our Capped data accounts a few months ago, existing clients where given more data to fall in line with the new pricing which made the total data a bit funky.

Hi All

Anyone been having problems with their download speeds during office hours lately?
My Line is currently syncing at 6144kbps with decent enough line stats. I'm usually able to get download speedtest results of 5.2Mbps, however for about the last month I dont seem able to achieve more than half of that during office hours.
Afrihost support said its a congestion issue and theres not much hey can do about it, but I dont see why this should affect me as I have a capped account and therefore should not ever shaped?

Afriman/guy any feedback please?

"congestion issue" as you stated refers to your exchange to which you are connecting being congested. This has nothing to do with how/if afrihost is shaping. and AFAIK Afrihost and most other local ISP's don't shape most of their capped data products at all.

The congestion referred to Afrihost not the exchange - I made sure of this when I spoke to support.
He told me Afrihost were in the process of purchasing additional IPC (not sure exactly what this means, but I know its referring to the ISP and not the Telkom Line)
