Afriman any hints on your capped adsl price cuts because I see webafrica has 120gb for R199pm.

Hahaha, I could tell you - but then I'd have to kill you (if Gian doesn't kill me first) ;)

Yes, AfriHost better hurry up with this as they are now falling behind.
I've only just joined AfriHost on a 50 GB package and am aleady sitting on 47 GB :(
Looks like its gonna be a short stay :)

Has Afrihost changed their contention ratios on their capped accounts recently? - throughput sucks last 3 days in evenings! Can't even get a steady 2mbps streaming from UK on a line that syncs at 6mbps.

We haven't changed anything on the network. Can you run our Network Test App so we can check your pings and traces?

I waited 41 hours for a response. 5 days later still no resolution...

Really sorry about that :( That kind of response isn't ideal at all.
If there is anything still outstanding please drop me a PM with the ticket ref# and I'll do my best to have it followed up on ASAP.

authentication can take sometimes, depends on the amount of authentication requests we're receiving at the time and how quickly we receive those requests off the Telkom network.

Should never take more than a couple of minutes at the most though :)

So here is tonight's disconnect/reconnect log (missed the disconnect but it happened at 20:14:

The log stops at the last entry above, it was connected then.

What would you say is the reason it takes 8 minutes to reconnect? While it is disconnected the DSL light is solid, so there is no problem with the link.

It would be interesting to see this from our log side, but to also see how authentication is working in real time. Can you drop me a PM so I can check your authentication logs?

AfriMan - I have a question wrt. bundled capped + line offerings:

Why are there no incremental data size packages for the 10meg line speed "gold" package.

There is only 10Mbps + 100GB or 10Mbps + 300GB - and nothing in between ?

Can't you guys add a 150GB or 200GB option for the bundled option ? Is this available on request ?

I've just bundled my line with you guys and selected the 100GB which is not ideal. 300GB is also way too much.

Thanks

Just buy an extra 100GB package? It wouldn't cost more than a 10Mb + 200GB.

We only have 100GB and 300GB because we have to create special packages to achieve the bundled pricing. Changing the package will mean we'll have to maintain two products lines which will make ordering and upgrading a lot more clumsy.

We may introduce more packages in the future, depending on the uptake of Capped Bundles.

LOL Afriman, you guys seriously need to re-look at how you setup your accounts.
I know the maths is correct but practically it's not working.
Take my case in question.
Last month I took out a 10 GB package to test, you gave me that free 1 GB which I appreciate and all went well.
Towards the end of the month I PMed you asking when is the best time to upgrade so I can avoid this pro-rata cr*p and you suggested as close to the 1st of February.
So seeing the 1st was on the weekend I applied on the 3rd, although you only switched me on the 5th.
So on the 1st you took off money for the 10GB package, then gave me my *free 1GB and on the 5th you took money off for the upgrade to 50 GB package.
Now in my book 10 + 1 + 50 = 61, but taking the pro-rata into account, so I should at least have more than 50, right ???
Guess what, using the AfriHost mathematics, I only have a total of 45 Gigs... how did that happen, now I'm in trouble as I'm gonna get capped!
This sucks dude :(

Remember that Feb is a short month, so 28 days, vs 31 days, means that the calculated daily per GB rate is higher than it would be in a longer month.

Also, at the end of the day, you only pay for 45GB, and not the full 50GB price, so you always get the full value for your money.

Afripeople, needing some info/help. I'd like to know if there's anything specifically up with the MTN network in the Western Cape, as I've been experiencing what I can only describe as network congestion. TelkomZA confirmed that up until today there was congestion on the Stellenbosch exchange I'm connected to, which is apparently resolved, but the problem persists.

Any insight appreciated, because if the congestion is actually resolved then I'm just not sure what I'm dealing with.

Evening :)
Looking at the results it looks like your exchange isn't too happy. The high latency here is affecting the rest of your throughput.
