Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

I'm considering moving from my present ADSL capped provider (the usual SA migration) and was wondering if there were any speed and latency issues with the 4meg line 200gig special going on (R399)? Many thanks for any advice.

If you in Cape Town you making a big mistake...

Hey there techhead. Hmm ok, I'm in Durbs, interested if any others having doubts then?

I am pulling my hair out here.

Speeds are not the best but not bad either. Its been a long time ago until I had full speeds during the day.

My problem that I have is, everything is just so gawd damn slow. Pages I open take forever to load, yet I get 600kb/sec down (should be 850kb/sec) the latency is solid, yet, its crawling. If I switch to IS, click / open. No fricken delay whatsoever. What is causing this? It feels like I am behind some slow VPN service.

I also went over to http://www.numion.com/stopwatch/
Cleared my cache and connected to afrihost. A whole gawd damn 14.3 seconds to load the page
Cleared cache and switched to IS
A whole 1.46 seconds.

What is cooking on your network Afrihost? I am getting sick and tired of a capped account behaving like a uncapped account that has been downloading the entire media library. You guys a throttling or limiting somewhere down the line. Admit it!!!!

What exactly are they going to investigate?...the link graphs showing a saturated CT IPC...lol

The problem here is that Afrihost thinks they dealing with joe public on these forums, well the majority are not and hold jobs in the tech sector.

Stop trying to give us false hope...the problem is lack of IPC capacity in cape town. So just tell us...guys the problem is not going to be resolved until more IPC comes online, instead you making these poor CT peeps run to support, performing line tests etc. Come on, we know there are only two solutions, more IPC or shape the death out of everyone to keep the IPC links below saturation to keep latency in check.

So when you say they are looking into it you actually mean they implementing more aggressive shaping...because that is the only thing that would make latency stable under a saturated link situation.

This outage was an isolated incident.

Really sorry to hear about the issues here :(
Please PM me your account info and I'll have this passed onto our team.

Afriguy - can I please get feedback on the Axxess vs Afrihost speed issue I have provided evidence on ?

Why the vast difference during the day...

Done...

Here a snapshot of my past speed tests. Look how inconsistent they are, the ones using the 105 IP. Then look at the 196 IP tests, which is IS, always rock solid and full speed. I see exactly one speedtest where I got full speed with afrihost.

Thanks for this, I'll take a look at your PM in a few mins and have our team take a look at the account for you.

Sorry to hear this :(
Have you run any tests with our team yet? Please paste up some speedtests and traceroutes so we can have a look at where these slow speeds are coming in.

Please see attachments Afriguy. My speeds are super slow, feel like I'm being shaped still :(

Just a question are you saying that capped is shaped based on you saying work arounds are not cool?

No, I'm saying bypassing our shaper in general isn't cool.
Business Uncapped and Capped accounts are unshaped.

OK, I am in considering changing my 4mb business uncapped account to an 10mb 100gb capped account. The main purpose is for video streaming and newsgroups.

Judging from this thread, it is not a good thing.
