OK, I am in considering changing my 4mb business uncapped account to an 10mb 100gb capped account. The main purpose is for video streaming and newsgroups.

Judging from this thread, it is not a good thing.

Until the AH dev/management/support team help me get to the bottom of why my account (not line - it's perfect, actually better than perfect and same as what you want) has degraded over the past 2 weeks, while other ISP accounts (Axxess and OW) fly, your conclusion seems spot on.

I suspect it is capacity related and hope it is a temporary thing. Would like to continue supporting AH tbh.

Our Business Uncapped and Capped accounts are both unshaped, so both suited for what you're wanting to do :)

Both our team and I are running through your query, I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it soon.

Not to be funny here, but saying an account is UNshaped is one thing, but being able to provide enough capacity so it actually behaves in an UNshaped manner... Well that is a different story altogether

I dont doubt that Afrihost Capped is unshaped (lets hope...) but if its only capable of downloading at 60% capacity of the line speed, then you might as well get a shaped product at a lower cost.

If this is the case it's something that we need to take a deeper look at. I know a lot of guys are reporting slower speeds on their accounts at the moment, but from what we can Capped accounts should be running as per normal.

If you are seeing slow speeds on your account please have this PM'ed to me so we can at least try to identify a possible trend here.

Would you mind elaborating on this please.

When you say "realtime services should be running fine" this alludes to certain traffic taking priority over other? That is a direct contradiction to the term "unshaped".

yes no?

You're right - all services are unshaped on Capped. I've updated my post, thought I was in the Uncapped thread for a second there.

AfriGuy, I want to move my line over to you guys but I have upgraded the line speed and the upgrade is still in progress, should I wait until the line speed order is complete or can I transfer the line so long?

I just want to transfer it before the next billing period start.

That shouldn't be an issue, you can place the request with us in the mean time :)
You won't have to worry about double billing, we look at what you've been billed already as to not complicate the billing process - the move over is seamless.

Just remember you need to have any data services/ contracts cancelled with Telkom before we can take over your line.

Thanks, and I should purchase the line speed package of the speed I'm upgrading to or what my speed is currently?

You'll need to apply for a line with us that your speed will be :) Line upgrades usually take about 48 hours, so if you want to avoid any confusion on your end you can always wait for this to take place.

Hmm, okay. I think I'll just wait for them to finish the upgrade, I put it through early yesterday morning so was hoping it would be done before the long week but doesn't look that way. Also not even sure yet if my line will be stable at the new speed yet, so maybe best if I wait.

Thanks for clearing these things up.

No worries :)
A safe bet for a go ahead on the move should be Monday/ Tuesday next week.

A Telkom angel from Twitter got back to me a few minutes ago and managed to push my order through. Have already ordered the Afrihost line bundle. :D

Not too shabby ;)

Welcome DrJohnZoidberg,

enjoy the thrill of being able to use 6-12% of your line! (even capped has been terrible lately)

enjoy your stay.

hahaha lol yeah I just canceled today.

I am on business and had terrible speeds last week. Why pay a premium and receive sub premium service? Double back guarantee will be useful to pay for uncapped elsewhere for a month or three..
