Yup, that's your problem.... congestion :(
Although it's not "that" bad. I usually got whacked with 1000ms pings when I had congestion.
It got to 500-750ms just before 21:00...

4 years ago I cancelled my ADSL and went onto 8ta's 10GB R299 promo because ADSL was so bad, got R2300 in credit from Telkom for the 1.5-Years I kept logging calls with them. I am not keen on that happening again..

This definitely looks like either congestion or a line fault. It seems fairly consistent though. So it's either severe congestion or possibly a line fault. Have you logged a fault to check whether that could be the case?

Am I correct in saying the following?
I am on a 4meg line capped 50 gig and Paying R375 a month
R279 is for the line rental
that leaves R96 for the 50 gig
Divide that by the 5o gig then I iam paying R1,92 per gig......
Is this correct

I use to get full speeds on YouTube, could watch 1080p videos with no buffering. But lately streaming sucks, constantly buffering. What could be the problem? On a 10meg capped bundle.

Yes, that sounds like your calculation is correct. If that is the case, you can opt for an equivalent capped bundle on the new offerings (like 50+50) or elect to stay on your current price.

Could you post some more stats on your general connection health - like the output from our Network Test App?

Since getting my line upgraded to 20Mbps I've tried out a WA capped product, home capped pro.

Is there any reason why speedtests to the MTN CT server are faster and consistent on WA than my AH capped account, which is usually much slower and a bit all over the place ?

Is this related to your current IPC issues ?

The line runs full tilt in the morning and after 22:00, nearly all weekend as well, with sub 20ms pings with full line speed. When this slowdown happens it doesn't matter what ISP I use, it is slow, and it is consistent to the window indicated. I can reboot the router and have even tried using another router when it occurs, no difference.

You mention that the high pings are consistent? Are you saying that hops beyond 105.236.11.129 should have lower pings typically? When it got real bad last night (500ms pings) at around 21:00, the pings at all hops were that high as well.

I will set up a no-ip domain on my router at home this evening and give you the URL which you can ping for reference.

It depends on which speedtest server you are hitting. I think some ISP's have proxy servers for speedtest, though I can't say I know 100% how that is setup.

I would much rather see real time latency and throughput. Since we do have IPC in Cape Town, local cape town server pings should be excellent.

What I meant there was sometimes with mild congestion, you see intermittent spikes in latency, not a consistent rise in latency like I saw in your traces.

Next steps, what else can I do for you? I opened ticket ANW-423-66424 in the meantime.

What's the overall consensus on Afrihosts capped product? I've tried all the uncapped products. Coming of WebAfrica capped (100KB/s on 10MB account during the day)

It says unshapped, is it really unshapped, and 24/7?

Yup. Apart from when you have a blocked-nose-exchange, it runs full tilt on all protocols all times.

Awesome, is there a cancellation notice period? Can't see it on the site.

Although I can live with 30 days I guess, R399 isn't that bad...

I'll test the free 1GB when my current capped account is at its worse - and see what it gets.

If you cancel before the 25th of each month, it cancels at the end of the same month. After the 26th, it cancels the month after.

Billing starts on the 25th (not the 26th) so you must cancel before then if you want to avoid further billing (except on certain products that require longer cancellation period (there aren't many exceptions though).

In general it would be month to month. So you can cancel before the 25th at any time during the month for the end of that month (since you pay in advance for the month).

Good luck with the testing. PM me if you need any help :)

Afrihost, why such a struggle for me to change my billing period to 15th of the month? I have been told telephonically that I need to pay before the 8 July 2014 or face paying a reconnection fee together with two payments upfront. I am a month behind, not two.
