Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

A quick update from CPT.
Still experiencing exactly the same as yesterday. 10mbps line maxing out at 4mbps on both local and international.

Last night and tonight things seem slow. Issues with streaming, facebook and twitter on my phone cant update over wifi.
 
I cant even browse on my capped 100 + 100 gb account with Afrihost. I have 27gb remaining.

I have connected to my 2gb Afrihost account(old account that hasnt been used) and voila, working like a charm.

Last few days the streaming and general browsing has been terrible.
 
I think I have uncovered what these okes are up to. Every single device in my home that I usually connect to the internet with via WiFi and ethernet is exceptionally slow, my Phones, tablets, Apple TV's, iMac etc. Cant even do speedtests from these devices. Came home with my work laptop today and hooked it up to my home Wi-Fi and its flying and download speeds are back to normal using this particular device! I suspect these guys are throttling frequently used devices which are probably linked to network card Mac addresses. There is simply no other way to explain why accessing the net on every other device which I have in my home and usually access the internet with is slow. Please can others test my theory out and if this proves to be true I want serious answers from Afrihost as to just what in the hell they are up to!

Wish I checked this forum before I bought some extra gigs to cover my shortfall on WA. Hulu streaming is crap with constant buffering and at best hobbling along at super low res. Sign back into my WA account and full HD no problem. Afrihost is down the tubes, well done MTN!

MAC addresses are on a different layer as TCP/IP, Ethernet or Wifi for example. Afrihost does not know your MAC addresses.

Fair enough, how then do we explain that all my commonly used devices in my home are slow except a device which has recently been introduced to my home? I use a D-Link router and the D link site states the following:

MAC Address: Each networking device has it's own unique MAC address defined by the hardware manufacturer. Some ISP's may check your computer's MAC address. Some ISP's record the MAC address of the network adapter in the computer or router used to initially connect to their service. The ISP will then only grant Internet access to requests from a computer or router with this particular MAC address. This router has a different MAC address than the computer or router that initially connected to the ISP. If you need to change the MAC address of the router's WAN-side Ethernet interface, either type in an alternate MAC address (for example, the MAC address of the router initially connected to the ISP) or copy the MAC address of a PC. To copy the MAC address of the computer that initially connected to the ISP, connect to the D-Link router using that computer and click the Clone Your PC's MAC Address button. The WAN interface will then use the MAC address of the network adapter in your computer.

Virus?
I assure you no isp can see what physical devices you have on your home network via Mac address.

Hard to say, wireless issues/channel conflict with a neighbour? Best is to connect a device via a cable to test.
 
And the only way they can see your dhcp reservations is if you let them log in to your router.

Definitely not a virus, Mavericks fully patched, running AV and I've checked for Bash vulnerability. Remember, this is spanning all devices including Android phones, Apple TV, Smart TV etc and some are connected to Ethernet. Only the device introduced today is running okay. This..Is odd. Can any of you experiencing response issues try connecting a device you haven't had on your home network before and do a speedtest?

We definitely don't have a way to distinguish devices on your local network. We basically see your router, and that's pretty much it. This would indicate there are settings at local network or device level. If other devices are wireless and you connected with a LAN cable, could highlight where you're having an issue :(
 
Hey, I've been getting under 10Mb download speeds on 2 of our 40Mb lines the past week. Pings are fine and uploads are fairly decent. PE based. Line conditions are good.

Exactly.
While this might be the case on certain fiber (read cable) networks, it's certainly not the case on ADSL.
