The account itself does not disconnect, the game loses connection to the servers. If you say that Gaming is prioritised, is this to local only or international servers as well?

On Battlefield 4 specifically, it uses different TCP/UDP ports for each platform (PC, PS3, PS4, XBOX360 and XBox1), are you sure all these ports are given realtime priority? And not even tlkaing about the thousands of other games, how can Afrihost generalise this comment? If you are doing this and we still experience packet loss they way we are then MTN has more problems than we thought!

On the PS4 I can do a full test on latency and packet loss to the specific server I'm connected to.

New games are created and published daily, so it would be impossible to practically ensure that every single possible game and iteration of that game is definitely unshaped. We also have disparities between official/legitimate traffic whereas unofficial game sites may integrate P2P elements to minimise the load on their servers.

However, our intention is to try to incorporate all known gaming traffic as unshaped, and to add new games and traffic types as we learn about them. If you can provide tests and help us update this, that would definitely help. We also receive regular updates from our providers who gather that information regularly from overseas and release them in firmware updates for the network kit.
 
We'll definitely need to look into this. If the account itself is disconnecting, then we'll need to see why that could be. If it's the game disconnecting them, it may be due to latency. We'll need to see the errors and go from there :(

It's not the account being disconnected, I'm being disconnected from the game.

What type of tests can I run? Bearing in mind that I'm playing on PS4.
 
Please stop saying "Capped is unshaped". It's a total lie and you know it. If I did this in the business I'm in I'd be out of a job in no time.

I know you may not like or want to hear the information, but this is the truth as I understand it. It's my role here in the forums to convey that. I think would definitely be out of a job if I lied in forums or in anything I do, so I totally agree on that point.

I know it's difficult on console to run any diagnostics, but any information we can get will help us troubleshoot this :(
 
I think I may not have been clear here. Traffic policies run the overall network management on the network. Even though Capped is not shaped, if Uncapped is not shaped as effectively as it should be, then overall contention will affect services. So it's very important that we ensure these policies are working correctly.

Gaming is definitely given priority on the network in general, and should not be affected by any shaping as Capped is unshaped.

This is fair. What QOS class are games prioritised in then (that does not use P2P). Unfortunately SA does not have any Console Servers and Europe is the next best thing. But as the other gamers mentioned, to much packet loss and you get kicked off the server. These days Gaming Tournaments attract big sponsors and prize money. Afrihost is getting a negative image as result of this, imagine if this was the opposite and most gamers would start to come over to Afrihost!
 
I just want to post a general reply to the gaming posts. At the moment, we know that our policies are not performing correctly. The fact that these issues are surfacing concurrently could be coincidence, but are most likely related. I think the best course now may be for use to restore normal performance and then test to see if these issues remain.
 
Is there anywhere we can see the lists of gaming IPs you are giving preferential treatment? Is PathOfExile on that list? I trust the official European BF4 server are since they've been around for a year at least. Would be nice to be able to check somewhere.

I'm sorry to hear that you've reached this low point in confidence with us, and I really am sorry that we have let you down. I can promise that resolving this and improving your experience is a high priority for us, and we hope to see performance improve.

Then I get through to who tweaks something to have it "working" again only for it to happen with a few hours/days.

Is it fair that I am paying +/- R280 for a 4Mbps connection that is not being serviced optimally? I cannot any more. I really can't. Gian assured clients MTN acquisition wouldn't result in ****. Quite frankly it has. Either that, or you grew beyond capacity and now you are just shafting everyone and anyone. (I'd love to hear what the business account guys think)

Very similar to what you are thinking!! This **** is getting old now. 4 of our client complained this morning that they are unable to connect to our web based application. Guess who all of their ISP's are? Uhhuh...

Afriman, I do think that's about time that we as AH loyal customers get from of official notification (from your CEO Gian, he has everyone's email addresses) with regards to this very poor speeds and what is going to be done to get back to normal levels. It's been going on now for over 3 weeks and which is totally unacceptable. This is what 1st class Companies do....they communicate with their clients... in good and bad times. From a personal point of view I would not like to cancel all my accounts and advise all my friends (to whom I've recommended AH and are now your customers to do the same). We need something OFFICIAL with a plan.

So what happened to me paying twice for my line?
I was promised credit note by afrihost support, nothing done. Guy that follows up tells me that your 2mb prices are indeed R297pm. Or shall we just continue name and shame?
