You are syncing at 6Mbps. It shows 10Mbit because 6Mbit is technically part of the same profile (it's anywhere from 5 to 10Mbit). You could probably get up to 8Mbit without having any issues.

I'm syncing at 6Mbit and it shows 10Mbit on Telkom's website.
That adsl checker means bogger all

I'm getting close to max of my line speed on p2p but twitch.tv is still unwatchable.

Aaaaand this Afrihost Capped accound is titsup.

Again.

In July people were calling for IPC upgrade...

/sigh

Welcome to SA, where companies never ever plan ahead and only ever do anything when it reaches critical mass and then complain about the cost of fixing it.

I'm getting close to max of my line speed on p2p but twitch.tv is still unwatchable.

In the 6 years I've been with AH I've never ever had a nice streaming experience. They seem to cap their international streaming at ~3mb/~120 - 250 kB/s. I've switched from AH uncapped, business uncapped and now capped and all of the them do the same regardless of line speed.

Agreed with the AH business uncapped. There was a handful of us (5+) complaining about Twitch streaming. Two months later nothing came of it so I left. That was the reason I came to capped. For the last 6 or so months I've been streaming Twitch on high every day, until three or so weeks ago anyways.

Ah, I switched to capped at the beginning of the month and having come from business uncapped just assumed it was the same. Good to know there is a chance it will get better.

There seem to be major issues with all my ISP accounts (except MWEB). Throughput is in the toilet, especially international.

I am starting to suspect that even though some ISP are to blame, Telkom is the one common denominator. I think their new policy of enforcing their FUP has had a blanket effect on ALL accounts and ISP's, not just their clients. Maybe someone made a stuff-up and thought it might be cool the enforce the FUP on the user LINES, as opposed to their ISP accounts?

...this might explain the sorry state of internet at the moment? I can't see how every ISP in the country is all of a sudden experiencing massive up-take and contention at the same time.

As per this duplicate post also in the AH Business Uncapped thread please don't point the finger at Telkom for something which is an ISP issue.

Yeah, I don't buy this.

Anyone's Internet really slow the past couple of weeks? Thought it was just me but friends on AH capped accounts have also experienced slow internet,

Speed tests show the speed is fine, however try to watch a YouTube video and it either doesn't play, stops halfway, streams extremely slow even on normal quality, or keeps reverting to poor quality due to it detecting poor speed.

HD is almost unwatchable.

My YouTube is going well again torrents not 100 percent but better than it was the last free days

Watching Hulu buffer is always an enjoyable experience... Maybe 40mb/s just isn't fast enough! I wish I had 100mb/s :(

I never said that it was Telkom's fault and NOT Afrihost's!
If you READ properly, you will note this... I merely made an observation that there have been times lately where the performance on MOST of my accounts with various ISP's have exhibited similar poor performance. Just take a look at my previous posts and you will see I am, and have been very vocal/critical of AH's business practices lately. In fact, all the way back to February this year.

How do explain, that from at least 2 different locations in Cape Town, international throughput has been really terrible across 5 different accounts?
...and NO... there is nothing wrong with these exchanges, or lines.
For Pete's sake, even my VOX Fat Pipe account has been crappy the past 4 days :(

All I want is an internet connection that works when I use it. Why is this witchcraft for SA ISP's?

It's been the same for me of late. Today I'm experiencing the exact same issues with YouTube i.e. pausing and defaulting to 144 or 240 quality :-(

P2P seems to have gotten better over the past 2 day specifically but all-in-all I'm getting quite frustrated.
