Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Yeah, I don't buy this.

The issues in Cape Town have been much more pronounced this year than in the rest of the country (especially JHB).

Must be that because JHB isn't seeing it, or refuses to believe it, than the Capetonian must be talking out his butt, innit :p

Contrary to popular belief, there are more cities and people in the REST of South Africa

It's been the same for me of late. Today I'm experiencing the exact same issues with YouTube i.e. pausing and defaulting to 144 or 240 quality :-(

P2P seems to have gotten better over the past 2 day specifically but all-in-all I'm getting quite frustrated.

Same here. It's getting really tiring now.

I never said that it was Telkom's fault and NOT Afrihost's!
If you READ properly, you will note this... I merely made an observation that there have been times lately where the performance on MOST of my accounts with various ISP's have exhibited similar poor performance. Just take a look at my previous posts and you will see I am, and have been very vocal/critical of AH's business practices lately. In fact, all the way back to February this year.

How do explain, that from at least 2 different locations in Cape Town, international throughput has been really terrible across 5 different accounts?
...and NO... there is nothing wrong with these exchanges, or lines.
For Pete's sake, even my VOX Fat Pipe account has been crappy the past 4 days :(

I never said you said that either but note you posted twice in two different AH forums in both suggesting Telkom was responsible and hence my response. If you understood how IPC etc works then you would know that Telkom cannot interfere with traffic on a per protocol level - If you read these threads you posted to you would have seen that there is a ton of examples where speedtests work fine but torrents don't show the same speed suggesting shaping/"optimisation".

Don't worry guy's it will come right in a few months, things will fly for about 8 months and we just need to be patient again.
at the end of the day, there is not much choice. and if their is a choice from another providers its also short lived, so chop and change is in order.
All i know is don't lock your account to a specific ISP. Our ISP's still need a lot of work to do, so all we can do is chop and change as the so called demand migrates to another ISP.

I moved from business uncapped to a capped account and see no difference, (capped is cheaper. if you know max usage) their management system seems the same. "Throttled" due to demand, even though they say they don't.

I still see P2P and YouTube stream flawless at 2am than any other time. and no its not my exchange. I've checked.
I'll be very surprised if AH win ISP of the year again , to me there is some collision. unless all the people that do vote are low end users.

But at the end of the day I still use AH. but damn it, I have also never received a vote on regarding their service.

...and yet you imply that I don't understand how IPC works??? Really???
FYI, I posted the same post in more than one thread... I have accounts with most of the ISP's, so my comments are made from an informed position. I also deal with ADSL issues all day long for my business and the work I do for clients. I merely asked if it were possible... if you read many of the other ISP feedback threads, it seems very strange that there are a lot of people complaining about similar throughput issues country-wide.

Our complaints about AH are justified, but when I see an issue with my account, I quickly switch to a different ISP to verify that it isnt my line, or something else at play. There are times when switching that I notice no difference in performance from my location. This is when I check the speeds at other locations to see what/who the culprit is... troubleshooting 101 ;)

spill the beans then. as i'm considering moving if this doesn't improve soon.

Just remember Dec brings freeze period and the whole AH we don't shape might take longer to fix...

But don't worry, don't despair they are after all 2014 winners :)

I'll be looking at February march next year . Sooner ........ BIG suprise.

Morning All

I see the thread goes back 4 or 5 pages here, so I don't think I can respond to every post (I'll try).

I think we did see some slow speeds and increases in latency this weekend. Seems like this was for brief periods, but generally our reports were that speeds and throughput should have been OK.

We're still waiting for further word on when our IPC upgrades will arrive, we expect that many symptoms reported here will be resolved when the IPC is live.

We also worked on improving gaming performance, especially for complaints on Destiny and ArchAge. The gamers we tested with reported that games were working much better.

If I don't answer or address your query, please PM me so I can make sure you get assistance.

I appreciate your honest feedback here, definitely a lot to think about.

Obviously people will say you can vote in polls or my other favourite is vote with your wallet. To me it's all about trust and the faith you have in your service provider. I believe that even when we make mistakes we make up for them and we delight our clients much more often than not. Even when we have some rough times, it's the knowledge that our clients experience and trust is more important to us than anything else that keeps our loyal clients with us.

There is definitely no collusion between us and users. In fact, in previous years we've run competitions to encourage people to vote (for their choice, not necessarily for us) and this year we did not. I think people voted with their experience based on trust. Not to say that we'll sit back and do nothing, we'll definitely keep improving and doing the best we can to give our clients awesome experiences.

Afriman I know you have no ETA on the IPC but do you have any idea what the chances are of it being done before the freeze period?

My gaming experience seemed a bit better in cape town northern suburbs this weekend...I have been annoyed with Afrihost...but im still a loyal client and I love their client zone where I can literally do what i want.... I hope your guys recover quickly.... hard to make excuses on your behalf to my clients....

Hey Guys

If anyone plays Destiny (that can play right now) please PM me, we'd like to run some tests on your game traffic to make sure we can give Destiny players a good experience :)
