Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

I cant watch a 360p video on a 10mb line without bufferring..I had better performance when I had a 384 line. Afrihost data is completely useless at the moment. This is ridiculous.

What is the process to cancel?

Sorry to hear that. It's hard to diagnose if there is an independant issue when we know that capacity is currently an issue. I do believe we'll have more IPC very soon and then we can monitor performance on various services like YouTube.

If you have made up your mind to cancel, you'll need to use the cancellation process in ClientZone (in Connectivity).

Epic fail, Youtube streaming is pitiful. Think my tether's been reached. I'm paying for service not vague promises of upgrades.

The promises are definitely real. We just can't confirm the date as that is exclusively Telkom's call. If we had the power to guarantee the date, we would definitely do so.

Packet loss at every hop on Afrihost.

Definitely looks pretty horrible from us. I think we'll see a very different picture a few days from now when our IPC is upgraded, and from there we'll have more ability to improve on the performance you're seeing now.

The problem is that, much like "shaping", we all seem to have a very different understanding of the term "very soon". It's been coming "very soon" for too long now. Telkom is needed to conduct this IPC upgrade, and we all know that "very soon" and "Telkom" shouldn't go together in the same sentence. On top of that, it's always that you're "hoping" or "believing" that it'll be done very soon.. Phrasing it like that doesn't instill much faith in your customers.

I really don't want to leave AH, but if giving us a proper date is too much to ask for, then I'm afraid we need to part ways. I know this gets mentioned time and time again in this thread, but we still get billed fully for a service which we aren't getting. This cannot be stressed enough because AH have made no effort whatsoever to right their wrongs. In fact, by giving us so little information regarding these upgrades, by "optimising" our capped accounts to a point where they become borderline unusable, by admitting that you have insufficient capacity, and yet continue to sign up new customers, AH is showing just how little they care for us. It's highly insulting if I'm honest! What are we to Afrihost? Money, and nothing more.

Tomorrow. If a date hasn't been given to us by tomorrow, then I'm gone. I will also be sending a mailer out to all of my clients advising them to avoid Afrihost. This might not sound like much, but take a look around these forums. You own customers are actively rallying against your services. People are going out of their way to tell others not to sign up with Afrihost. This extends far beyond the mybb forum, and will cost Afrhiost a huge number of customers. You are not just turning customers away, but turning them into activists against AH.

I can't download anything or move any data on my Afrihost account.
It started with those Telkom problems yesterday, but I still can't connect.
(My WebAfrica account works just fine - I'm using that to type this).

Sorry to hear that you are moving away from us. Let's hope when the performance improves we can chat about coming back. You're always welcome to PM me :(

Trust me if I had a choice I would have stayed, I was a loyal customer, but I run a business and you cost me money I had no choice.

Same with my hosting I had to move 34 sites yesterday because I was loosing clients.

I will gladly come back, but you guys will need to change a few things first.

We're always interested in improving wherever we can to provide a better service. If it's within our power, we'll definitely make things better wherever we can :)

That's definitely weird. Please PM me so I can check your account, we shouldn't be having any auth issues right now :(

I can't provide a date I don't have. Believe me, I would love to say it's going to be on X day and put your concerns to rest, but I would be only creating more disappointment when that date comes and goes. We've learned that even when we have been given dates by Telkom in the past, it's sometimes hit and miss if they actually deliver on that day. Sometimes they go live early (which is great) and other times they extend the deadline.

Our clients are definitely more than just money or numbers to ours. We value our clients and I can promise when we have meetings about anything in the company, our client's experience is always the priority and trumps any other argument.

If everybody now goes to another ISP then I will stay with AH ;-)

But ja, I am doing a count down on those 10 days you are talking about Afriguy

I really hope that we may not even have to wait that long. The East went live fairly quickly so I'm sure the other upgrades are close behind. Hopefully we'll have some good news soon.

@ AH - are Axxess performing the same upgrades as you are, or are the upgrades in the South going to affect their portion of the MTN network too, or just AH's?

The upgrade is to the same IPC, we use with Axxess, but they manage their network independently to us, so their rules and management differ to us. But we'll make sure that we get enough capacity for our clients and projected future clients (demand).

Heck of a way to show it. I'm not trying to run Afrihost here, but surely there should be a meeting whereby someone says "seeing as though we don't have enough capacity to satisfy our current customers, and our client's experience is our top priority, maybe we should stop selling new accounts until such time as the new capacity gets installed?" or "As our customers are our top concern, maybe we should keep them better informed with the situation.."

Look, I'm not asking you to give us a date that you don't have. In fact, I'm not asking you to do anything that you're not in a position to do. My issue isn't with you (although, if i'm honest, the constant pro management propaganda is quite annoying) but with management itself. Your job is to communicate with the public, and you can only communicate what has been given to you. The issue is that so little information seems to have been given to you. I cannot believe that the best estimate that AH management has for the the IPC upgrades is "very soon". They're paying for it! They're pushing for it! Why can't they just keep us updated? In the past week, literally nothing has changed. "Very soon" is still "very soon".

OK, I am able to log in now and it seems like it is working now.
Thanks for the reset!
