Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

P2P and NNTP speeds are running at normal speeds.

I'm getting 1/10th of my line speed which is now "normal" on Afrihost capped. I'm so bummed that I didn't cancel before the 25th...

Agreed. This is becoming the new normal it seems

I'm giving them 1 last month to get these upgrades done (trying to give them the benefit of the doubt here) and their network stable or else I'm gone as well.

You are forgiving. I don't think everyone should be in this mess to start with.

Especially as it's history repeating itself.

A few days here and there is acceptable, it is Africa after all. If seacom or something goes down, totally understandable. But considering this has all happened before...

Smacks of bad management.

In JHB from Midnight to 6:00 AM Full speed.

Any other time, between 5 and 10% of line speed.

Down south, here, TuneIn=buffers and disconnects, Youtube=buffers@240p... downloads just wither and die.

"Backup" accounts are now all capped and have been topped up all month... using Afrihost data or losing it... and it is STILL useless down here... despite my negativity, I still had an inkling of faith and glass-half-full hope-type-affiliation... that is now running on absolute empty. Packet loss on Afrihost and pathetic speeds... I can only imagine now how how long this will be endured for after the upgrades and the tinkering and optimising when fiddling then begins by AH.

Piss poor show Afrihost... piss poor.

EDIT:

OK.. now an ETA on this upgraded is needed... and no, I do not mean immanent or soon, a definite date now please... over 2 months of absolute poo needs to have an end-point defined by something more than a guess... how long until we can expect to get what we pay for... including the upgrade and all the "tweaking" that you feel you need to do... still...

I'm starting to feel less and less sympathetic towards them as this day goes on. As i.got~issues stated. Everything is buffering at lowest of low and now my vpn connection to work is too slow to do any work.

I think what'll do for November though is make something to keep track of my speed at certain times of the day for the month. Then at the end of the month I'll see how often I actually get the speed I pay for. Perhaps that'd even come in handy if I wanted to demand a refund at the end of November.

I have to use a program that uses multiple threads to get a twitch.tv stream going... Oh well, less than a week to go and I'm out of here.

Getting 15% of my line speed on downloads, and it's 2am. Must be all those people streaming the cricket that are causing all this "contention". Thank goodness the IPC has been upgraded already, I'm sure it would've been far worse if it hadn't!

Uncapped account but not involving MTN.......

I'm certainly wanting to move. Had downtime at home again last night - switched to WA account and all was good. Tired of having to switch every now and then. For those that have gone thru this - what are my best options? I have a 10Mbps ADSL that AH manages on my behalf, along with a 50GB + 50GB.
- When would be the best time to cancel?
- I'm assuming that when i cancel, and the ADSL line transfers back to Telkom, it will still be usable?
- I've setup forwarding for the one Afrihost email address that we use (should not need it after the next 2 weeks or so). If i cancel, will the forwarding rule stay in place, or will that result in the email address being cancelled as well at the same time?
- Any idea on how long the ADSL transfer to Telkom would take?
- Any other advice?
