Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Openweb is offering ADSL users 1GB free ADSL data on its “Gold level” ADSL network. According to Openweb these accounts offer low latency, and are aimed at gamers which have been struggling with high latency recently.

“We have noticed that clients from various ISPs are suffering from high latency, effectively preventing gamers from playing online games. We are helping out by granting access to our Gold level ADSL network to the first 200 folks to take us up on this obligation free offer,” said Openweb’s Keoma Wright.
Best! I laughed.

Internet has slowed to a trickle the past 30 minutes ... Can't load any web pages, even MyBB is very slow. Anyone else? 50 GB AH capped account.

Now Afrihost are deleting my complaints on Facebook. Its actually so bad now, that it is funny.

Busy speaking with some of the different ISPs, and charting what packages Afrihost offers, and what the equivalent is at other ISPs, for everyone in Cape Town who now needs to move. I will post my findings later.

Pls let us know what you find out

We've already started passing on massive savings on Business DSL and we're planning to launch some new price cuts pretty soon. Obviously I can't say more, but our intention is to find our feet, assess what the impact of the move has been on our client base, and then launch our next price assault accordingly.

That's one way to deal with it - a bad way in my opinion. Offer general pricing advantages to everyone in the future. A better way: get a list of people that are specifically unhappy (read: on the verge of moving on) and offer them something specific, and related to them. I am a 60GB capped client - I don't want Business Uncapped. And I'm certainly not sticking around to see what specials come over the next few months....

I do understand your point, the new offerings are not about appeasing unhappy clients. What would be the point of charging less for something that someone is already unhappy with? The truth is that we had always planned to make massive price cuts on ADSL products, and we've been waiting to do this once the network stabilised. That's taken us a little longer than expected, mainly becuase we've unshaped all traffic and given our entire client base a full run at the network. We'll start slowly pulling the reigns back to the level they should be, and the experience will be more or less in the same category it was previously, though it certainly seems like with the capacity we have now it will be better.

We launched the price cuts now becuase, with everything we have planned, we couldn't wait longer. We still have competitions, promotions, incentive programmes and of course price announcements to make before the end of the year that has been planned way in advance. it has nothing to do with trying to make complaints go away at all. On the contrary, we need the positive and negative feedback more than ever to determine what we're doing right and wrong so that we can learn and compensate as quickly as possible as we find our feet with controlling this massive network.

I can understand that, but I personally felt pretty annoyed by the mail:
The good news is that even though we've experienced some teething problems, on a whole the move has been a great success.

The only way this makes sense, is if you describe 'teething issues', as getting you teeth whacked out by a steel bat. My only experience of this move, inclusive of 4 friends on Afrihost, has been incredibly bad. Easily one of the worst dealings I have ever had with any company in my life. From that perspective I think it's just plain rude to even make mention of any success when it comes to moving to MTN.

I would say it has been anything but a success. Honestly, there are masses of AH uses complaining about performance. Its really dreadful.

Thumb up Afriman and the AH team.

No issues what so ever tonight.

First time in a week i could shoot some peeps in BF3 :)

Had an average 2KB/s download over the last hour on a 2Mbit line... so that's 1% of what I used to get? Afriman, if I cancel my service tonight, is it with immediate effect, or a month's notice? I'm asking on capped bandwidth, and adsl line rental... how do I transfer my line back to Telkom?

 So its still not safe to get back in yet ?

Whats a good option until, or if ever... this MTN marrage and Afrihost works ....I think its a good time for devorce

Must be wonderful to be in JHB, and have the only IPC on the current Afrihost network. Best ping I can get in CPT is 65ms with Afrihost. Switch to Openweb and I get 16ms.

Yeah I dont know ? Telkom is busy in the exchange doing line speed upgrades ...Afrihost moves to MTN but something is just not right these days ...I give up mate.

OpenWeb sent new user name and password and looking better .

I convinced my business partner to use Afrihost because of their cheap capped packages, and I am sorry to say it was the worst decision ever. I actually look like a fool to my partner due to this fiasco.

My business cannot function due to the high latency and poor speeds.

Afrihost, please sort this out ASAP, otherwise I will be taking my business elsewhere.
