Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

so here is a thought.

at the time of your message you used three different networks

- telkom
- afrihost (mtn)
- openweb (IS)

and all three gave you problems with relating to speed. what are the chances that three networks are having the same issue (at that time), given that they route differently local & international, make use of different shaping/throttling/qos/insert_latest_buzzword, and so on.

maybe your specific issue, lie elsewhere.

but like i said, its just a thought.

j.

Yes that correct , thats why I done the edit to say they all suck at that moment (telkom) problem. However my last post was after a week of about 85% good speeds , then it all fell apart again and telkom and openweb were 100%

My apologies, I should have been clearer. Although I have given notice of cancellation and will soon not be your client, I remain a client until 31/12/2012 due to missing the 25th of the month notice deadline. So, until then, you've got my money & I am your client. My expectations for the following 30 odd days are not very high, based on the poor product and service I have received from you thus far.
Your concern about your time and where it's spent is laughable. You are more interested & are spending more time in responding to this crap than you ever actually spent in reading or addressing the concerns I had, that ultimately lead to all this. If your concern was genuinely for your customer, we wouldn't be here.
Lastly, this is an Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback thread to which I am quite entitled to post my comments and feedback on my experience with Afrihost.

If you're truly interested a a resolution, then send me a PM. You only posted a small (out of context) excerpt from my mail, so I really can't decipher who you are. From the little I saw, I asked to give me an update on your current experience. Seems valid since we were making ongoing changes at the time you probably emailed.

I'd rather not respond to "crap" as you put it, so give me some genuine data and feedback to work with, and let's find a solution :)

Why dont you guys at Afrihost get back with IS and give us a @afrihost.is account and a @afrihost.mtn option and we choose who we want to get bandwidth from ?

I am between a rock and a hard place, Afrihost does not perform and Openweb has a kuk user interface and is just too hard to deal with ....so where to from here ?

We have a lot more capacity and infrastructure planned, and we are waiting on Telkom to implement this. We're also upgrading MTN's infrastructure to maximise the impact of the additional capacity. As soon as I have an ETA on this, I'll post more info on this.

For now we need to work with what we have and get the best out of the network, and we believe our QoS is the way to go. This system will still be in place for the future, but having more capacity will mean that the effects will be far less noticeable (especially for downloads). We are also planning some changes to QoS to restrict heavy downloaders more, so that light users can have an experience closer to capped performance (as close as one can deliver on an uncapped product)

Well i hope so , as right now I only have the 20G that telkom include in the account

Will just have to go easy on it till things get sorted .

Hahaha funny joke :D I cancelled on the 7th November because of non stop cr@ppy speeds since the 1st of November and was told blah blah Use / Don't use.. Not our problem no refund and please f@#$ck off from our threads. xD

Just saying these guys won't see a cent from me or anyone I know or meet in the future.

Word of mouth advertising is great... :D so is negative advertisment as well.

we got refunds on two uncapped accounts. i just sent a mail to accounts@afrihost and they responded with the amount to be refunded. that was on the 15th november

"You Guys" Yes You Afrihost You need to shake up the internet again, get off the ground and back on your perch .

You done it before, is there a reason you can't do it again ?

Telkom's slow delivery, for now...

Afrihost made the biggest mistake ever, by joining up with mtn.

I've never, ever, been this frustrated with a service...not even with 384k with anyone.

50GB capped account and 4MB speed with telkom..!

Afrihost, many business people warned you about mtn's terrible quality, warned you not to join up with them, warned you that it would cost you dearly...

The only advice I can offer, is to take the temporary financial loss of pulling out from the mtn deal and save the company...or go under, as people that considered you a great company before, leave you in droves, spreading the word far and wide, to absolutely avoid Afrihost...

I dunno if it's clever, but I'm still hanging on with AH. Three reasons for that:

1) Afriman as well as some other techie at AH telling me they will have all this mess sorted out latest by Jan/Feb. And I for one I'm pretty positive that AH wil once again be on top of things again. They will up their capacities!!!

2) My line is stable, very stable since a couple of days. No outages except the usual Telkom downtime at around 5 in the wee hours. It's a bit slower than usual but not by much. The only real problem is unacceptable latency coz of no Cape Town IP yet.

3) Because I mostly use my connection for international gaming and need good latency they put me in a crash test dummies group and I won't be billed up till the end of February. That's very kind and fair, dontcha think? Better a laggy gaming experience for free than the hassle to run into new problems with another ISP. You all, even the outspoken AH haters, have to admit that all ISPs muck up from time to time. We all read the stories of despair in the forum and we see the names of all ISPs being mentioned there. So why now, all of a sudden, give AH the grief when they are having a bad time anyway? Their service is still the best, their prices are the best and their network will soon be the best as well.

November 29, 2012...Afrihost’s ADSL problems continue with high latency and slow speeds caused by a router failure in London

28-11-2012 12:36 PM...
We use MTN Business and that Network Notice" that cbrunsdonza is talking about happens almost weekly. All you see is STM 4 links to london tealacity are down and the carrier is attending.

We are moving away from them when our contract expires.

So Afrihost good luck this has happend for the last 4 years with them what is going to change now?

Guys,

How we implement QoS and the recent issues clients are having with downloads are not anything to do with MTN. From the network perspective, we believe it's been solid. The latency issues were a result of how we had managed traffic (or rather not managed it by leaving everyone unshaped) and I think everyone can agree that this got 1 million times better once we implemented QoS. We had already applied for the capacity upgrades at least two months ago, and we have no control over how long Telkom takes to implement CT and DBN IPC, but things will also improve in terms of local and international latency once these are in place.

Also, what MTN does on it's mobile operations, locally and abroad, has got absolutely nothing to do with us, and no impact at all on their ADSL service provision to us. It would be like wondering if your local gym is going to close down because Sir Richard didn't manage to cross the English Channel (though he actually did).

If "the recent issues clients are having with downloads are not anything to do with MTN." and "From the network perspective, we believe it's been solid." is how you view these many pages of capped/uncapped ADSL QoS complaints, then let's see how many ADSL clients you have by Feb/March, which some say is the date you expect issues to be resolved...I sincerely hope that these terrible QoS issues are resolved by then.

The bolded part of your response above, does not help in changing the perceptions/opinions that people have, concerning mtn. I gave my opinion, "I'd say mtn, whatever the division, could care less whether quality of service is a concern...", after I had posted a link, where people express their concern regarding mtn ADSL Quality of Service and one about their cellular Quality of Service...An opinion, which I'm sure, is shared by many, having read the threads/articles concerned.

Since I'm paying for a supposedly "premium" service of 50GB "capped", so that I can create 3D content online and game online without agony, I naturally expect better than the pure junk QoS that is served, with a dessert of "From the network perspective, we believe it's been solid."...

Yes, I would shut the hell up about QoS if I was paying R89,00 for 4MB "browse only" uncapped...

That said, I sincerely wish all at Afrihost, all the best for the holiday season and the new year ahead.

Thread fallen off the edge! So it is alleged that the IPC in Cape Town is live, Well, still early days, but my capped is worse.

My capped account in Cape Town is flying and I am getting great pings.

I will test it further but if this keeps up I will go back.

To Cape Town:

To London:

Is it just me or is AH extremely slow today? Also, is it AH or perhaps Telkom? Don't want to blame AH unnecessarily. I can't even google things, and my downloads are not even starting. Terrible.

Also in Cape Town on a capped package. AH has been very slow for me the last three days. Emailed AH/PM'd AfriMan: No response. :(

Yes, it is super slow :( I have to pay FNB and top up my account there in order to browse the internet. Not happy about that as I do pay AH and I am not making use of their service because it is so slow.
