I'll need to check, your line could either be a on a 7Mbps profile at the moment, or there could be an issue on the line that is affecting the sync itself.

Could you PM me your line number and I'll check what's going on.

Did you get my PM this morning?

Hallo

Would like to know what you recommend Current stats Afrihost capped 20Mbit profile
ADSL2+
Upstream 1020 kbps
Downstream 14335 kbps
SNR Margin (Upstream) 8.8 db
SNR Margin (Downstream) 7.9 db
Line Attenuation (Upstream) 16.6 db
Line Attenuation (Downstream) 27.0 db

I was running 2 weeks at 18000 kbps stable not 1 disconnect I think the snr down was about 6.8 db. Then all off a sudden my speed went down to 14335 kpbs. Will vdsl make a difference maybe get the full line speed or closer to the 20 Mbit. Also they advised me I can just plug in a vdsl router and the line will pick up its vdsl as my line is on "multimode adsl and vdsl" is this possible ?

Your line stats are good enough that you should get a stable 20Mbps on VDSL, on ADSL2+ I would have put your stable speed at about 16Mbps. (Your SNR margin has to stay above 6dB or else the exchange forces your line to drop and sync again)

By multimode ADSL/VDSL, yes, your VDSL router can have the setting. They still have to change the modulation to VDSL at the exchange.

I suggest you move to VDSL if you can, it will be more stable, be closer to the 20 Mbps (as it has a larger frequency band and lower overheads) and also the 2Mbps upload (trust me, it makes a huge difference if you e.g. game and someone else in the household is streaming).

Youtube seems fine. I'm the only one on the internet at the time.

EDIT: This is the in-game ping in Star Trek Online

Thanks for the feedback great to hear. Okay thats were the misunderstanding came I only got a oldish vdsl modem to test first no multimode. Will contact ah to change my modulation.

Hi AfriGenie,

I need some help with my account and the live chat support can't seem to help.

I had been using a capped account, billed as 100gb+100gb for months now.

Today I decided to try Afrihost plus, but didn't get the benefit of double data (I did set it up in the clientzone).

The person in support I spoke to seemed to think that I already had AH+ and that's why my account said 100gb+100gb.
I'm not entirely sure why I had 100gb+100gb but its been like that for ages (maybe I signed on during a promotion?).

Can you please see what's going on with my account?

As reference, here is the invoice I've been receiving for a long time prior to trying AH plus:

EDIT: I have PM'd you my account details

It's a strange situaiton... You should only get Double Data with Plus+ enabled, I'll check what's going on and let you know!

When I choose to upgrade the package via the client zone it looks like this, not sure if it was like that before I bought AH+ this morning:

YEs. :)

Thanks for the thorough answer Johanatan56!

You may also want to consider if you are going to be switching to Fibre in the future. VDSL is nice, but the modems can be pricey. If you are planning on getting Fibre it may not be worthwhile switching to VDSL now.

Yip the modems are very pricey. I found out the one I got to test is not going to work. So yeah will try to source another one to test. Dont think fibre is going to be feasible in my area any time soon.

Hey AfriGenie

The latency spikes are still occurring on dbn-up and dbn-dn on my Openserve fiber lines. I have provided a multitude of WinMTR traces to your support line, but because I refuse to run speedtests on your network and the openserve guest account your agents are refusing to submit the issue.

I won't be pursuing this issue with your support team, so I thought I should let you know.

thx

Afrigenie, can ADSL users expect any price cuts or any other benefits with the incoming IPC cost reduction? I am sure myself and other loyal customers would be excited to hear some positive news.

That doesn't sound cool! :( Do you have a ticket ref that I can look into?

Absolutely. :) Openserve Fibre prices are being cut and we'll be pushing as much value as possible back into our Network to provide the best experience possible.

Why I am having issues streaming video every evening on Afrihost with an Openserve fibre line. I have a 100mb line but I'm lucky to even get 3mb/s throughput. Happens every day during peak periods. If I switch the a Web Africa account suddenly I am streaming without any hickups. Again points to a capacity issue on the Afrihost network. Extremely frustrating given that I video streaming is "unshapped at all times"

Unshaped but highly condended I would say.

@ Afrihost: What is the contention ratio on unshaped capped by the way? More specific, what is the contention ratio during netflix time (7-9pm)?????

I'm on axxess capped 400GB account. Axxess as far as I understand is owned by afrihost. From 8-10pm I'm getting high latency and I also see some packet loss on one of the devices that's owned by Axxess/Afrihost. Why does 90% of the isp's suck these days. Why can't ee just get an isp that does what it's supposed to do and when there's issues they don't take years to sort it out? Please fix your network
