Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

Interesting to note that Afrihost has stopped responding to my comparative AH and SAIX test account posts. I wonder why?!?! Hitting to close to home perhaps. *shrug*

We're passing all tests onto our NOC Team. :)

I am then at a loss as most EU based game servers my latency is horrible as I tested Diablo as well last night and same thing. When I test my line SNR is a little low.

Are you seeing higher than normal latency when testing other services as well?

Afrihost why do I always have problems with your DNS? Twitch, reddit and imgur don't load properly 50% of the time so I have to switch to google dns.

we see http downloads start at full speed at 1am in the morning and then slowing down to about 1/10 th of the line speed are you shaping and slowing down the speeds on purpose so that people download less in free time or are you throttling http downloads

I'm surprised to hear you report this. :( We're not seeing any general issues with these sites on our DSL network. Could you send me a traceroute with some results?

No not really it's mostly games and then the twitch.tv issue as reported by most people

Thanks, I got your PM! I'll look at your account and we can troubleshoot this a little more over there. :)

Twitch a no go again tonight. Is there any progress on this? If I have to keep switching to my Web Africa account I might as well move to them in full...

Download Streamlink and Streamlink Twitch GUI.

Once both are installed open Streamlink Twitch GUI - Settings - Enable advanced settings.

Now go to the third tab, it should be called Streamlink, set the stream type to rtmp and HLS segments to 10.

Thanks Soul Assassin! :)

Isengard, would you mind trying this method out? We've had quite a few Clients report significantly improved Twitch performance using Streamlink.

Wow it really does work, source is actually useable now. Still needs to be sorted out though, cuz this relies on threading connections which is simply working around the issue, for example is still cant watch twitch on my phone if I wanted to.

Great for the interim though, thanks Soul Assassin!

I've read endless times of people all over the world having issues with Twitch, including people in South Korea with 1Gbps lines.

Twitch has always been unreliable, that's just the way it is.

Now matter who your ISP is it's just the way it is, the caveman way of also sort of fixing the issue is to refresh the stream over and over until you connect to a better server, because Twitch sometimes decides it's fun connecting you to Japan or Australia for no reason, there are also Chrome and Firefox extensions that allow you to choose your Twitch region, changing to the UK or Europe will often help.

But there is no reason not to use Streamlink.
