Afrihost cloud down again, and again, and again, and again.

We transferring domains now with a speed, creating the email accounts manually on the new server, just to try and help the clients. Websites we leave off until we can get to the Afrihost data again.

You must contact their office and speak to Oscar - Seems again like he get things done at Afrihost. They need more "Oscars" at Afrihost.

Oscar is definitely one of our best and brightest, but we have all our team working on getting all clients up again. It's always best to work via our support channels so we can get reference and track queries until they are resolved.

All 3 our cloud servers are unresponsive again!

*edit*

I can now predict when the servers will become responsive. It starts with MSSQL becoming slow or unresponsive. Especially big queries will time out.

Then you lose connection to the server. If you then check your other servers they are all inaccessible.

*edit*

UPDATE 24 January 2014 14:30 A critical problem has been identified in the data store. Affected client may see degraded performance on their cloud servers. Our team are investigating the cause to resolve this as quickly as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience and assure affected clients that all available resources are being brought to bear to minimise the impact to our clients.

Damnit Afrihost! Get your act together!

Guys, we need to work together here! We cannot move every single cloud server away from Afrihost in the first 6 hours they up and running. We need to draw up a schedule... Ha Ha.

We managed to move the main sites away, so no stress this weekend. I'm chilling the rest of the weekend and leave the rest from Monday. I really need a break after all this stress.

Our server was accessible a short while ago via SSH with a load average of high: 17.84, 13.72, 10.31. Now we can't ping or access our server or sites again!

Afrihost, please keep the servers up long enough so we migrate our clients onto more stable infrastructure.

This is totally unacceptable. No more apologies or explanations, get this sorted out as this is costing us money and credibility.

I don't understand how they haven't been able to fix this for months now and that it keeps happening. I also don't understand why we are still hosting with them.

Guys, I need to move ASAP.
Can you make some suggestions?

I have lost quite a few clients over the last couple of days. I will be out of business in no time.

Really, really sorry about this. I know this has been a terrible couple of days, and I'm afraid we still have a bit to go.

We've found that the data storage causing all the problems is still causing degraded performance. Although affected servers have not gone down, servers are pretty much unresponsive due to performance.

We're migrating affected servers off the data store, and this may be a few hours or so. Depending on when we address your server, becuase they have to be individually migrated.

I know this is very frustrating. I promise that our team will be around to get you through this as quickly as possible, and I'm also here to answer any questions I can :(

"Our team is moving affected clients off of the affect data store. "..... Afrihost. Where the hell did you move us, THE DIRT BIN?
Absolute idiots messing with peoples businesses like this.

I see on twitter that @SaBreakingNews is also having a go at Afrihost wrt. their website hosting

But AfriMan didn't you guys move everyone off the data store yesterday? Or is this a different data store that has also broken now?

Hi AfriMan,

Please can you clarify something, on your notifications it says:

Update: 09h00

Our team continues to migrate affected clients off the affected data store.

Our team is working as fast as possible to move affected clients off the affected data store

Update:12h30

Thank you for your patience.
Our team is working on restoring services after a Data Store issue. We continue to migrate affected clients off of the affected Data Store.

Update: 14h00

Our team is continuing to migrate affected clients off of the affected Data Store. We thank you for your patience. We are working as fast as possible.

Update: 16h00

Our team is moving affected clients off of the affect data store. Our apologies the inconvenience and the frustration this is causing.

And now you mention that "migrating affected servers off the data store, and this may be a few hours or so. Depending on when we address your server, becuase they have to be individually migrated."

Please could you clarify what has happened over the last 24 hours if the affected servers are only being migrated off now?

Being a Service provider ourselves, I really do feel for your technical team. Being in their position I would imagine is hell. So all the best to them.

Do what we did... Export the email accounts when the server come back on, import in a new server and point the DNS Settings to the new server. Much quicker solution than to export the entire site and you can get your clients emails to work in a very short time.

Afrihost - You are a bunch of lying thieves.
You claim to have moved us from the faulty data store and now you are spinning that same story on your status page. Useless, useless, useless....

What they are telling us just does not compute. I would love to know what's really going on and what they are really doing to fix it.

Do you have a step by step on this. Usually I do all clients and websites etc....

What company can you suggest?

We're sorry that you feel this way. I do have faith in our team and they are dealing with a very difficult, technical issue that I personally would be completely lost trying to resolve.

We began migrating clients yesterday, but at some point we were able to restore performance with the help of the vendors who have been on site since yesterday. However the storage seems to be malfunctioning again, but we have been moving servers continuously throughout the day to avoid any further downtime.

But AfriMan didn't you guys move everyone off the data store yesterday? Or is this a different data store that has also broken now?

We moved as many clients as we could, but we were able to restore the storage performance So we decided to reboot as many clients on the existing storage as we could for now, and we've been moving clients over during the day as we still ultimately intended to replace the affected hardware. However, now that the storage is degrading again, we're moving them over as quickly as we can so we can pull the hardware for the vendors can investigate and get clients back upas quickly as possible :(

Thanks for the detailed post Murmaider. I can't agree more and look forward to getting a clear and concise answer to your question from Afrihost.

As I explained, we moved as many clients as we could, but once the storage started performing again, we brought the remaining clients back up to minimise downtime. We continued to move servers to try to clear the store, but we had hoped it would not degrade while we did so, to reduce downtime for clients :(
