Afrihost cloud down again, and again, and again, and again.

I moved servers at the end of December. Nothing but hassles. More downtime in with Afrihost in the first few days than I have experienced in the last 10 years. I have 200 clients/companies who are down at the moment.
I have lost half a dozen clients already. The final amount I will know in the coming days.

I'm really sorry about this, I know how devastating downtime can be - any amount of time. I can promise you that our guys are working full steam ahead on getting this sorted out.

Ok, so we not that big, but I guess every single cent helps.

Many thanks to Dave from domains.co.za (who is currently my hero) who managed to copy out 10 sites last week Friday night between 7 & 11pm.

WE ALL KNOW HOW THE DEVIL IS WORKING! Our training domain was one of the lucky ones that he copied out.

We had this week alone 36 positive helpdesk queries, 18 confirm bookings at a cost of average R3500 per head. Last question on the enrollment ask how they find us, and every single one was "google".

We not that big and R63 000 may not be much to everyone else, but Dave just saved me a lot of money this week. Just image he did not copy this domain out last week? Just image the 36 also book!

On the other side we lost now 13 clients with web hosting. Been called anything and everything you can think of by people.

What can you do..... now we must fill in a form to claim for something we had to pay for in advance......Don't Afrihost bill us in advance?
You a sales rep for domains.co.za?

No, not at all and I'm sure there is many other providers that offer the same excellent service. Only got in contact with them last week Wednesday for the first time. Understand that I'm very grateful for their help so far, especially for the business we made this week.

Afriman can confirm my account, my server name: energeticwr.. not to mention ADSL, Mobile connections and domain renewals 85+. Oscar in their customer service also knows me, especially after they screwed up my ADSL lines last year.

These guys helped me late night that you dont get at any place. I was also forced to upgrade 4 times in the year with Afrihost because of CPU usage. Not even 1 hour with the new host and they pop me a email to say that there is a serious database problem on two domains that is causing a "loop" and high CPU usage. So I paid more for nothing....

Did I mention I had the "managed cloud server" with Afrihost, paying almost double for a year and they unable to tell me 8+ months what a new hosting company tells me in 1 hour? Dont you expect that kind of service if you paying double for hosting + management of the server?

I think this is an excellent opportunity for other companies who wants the business to contact people on. If anyone else received good server then why not tell everyone else? That how I actually heard about them from reading other post and feedback comments. Check the same forum category, you will find a couple of good feedback comments to them, and again, I'm sure there are plenty other also. I just managed to spot theirs first and within 1 week had a very exceptional experience with them.

Oh, just wondering. Did you have a dedicated server with Afrihost? And now a Resellers account with domains.co.za?

Yip. Sorry my knowledge of servers is limited.

I moved Feb 13 to Afrihost reseller account, purely because we moved to wordpress and my previous host only had windows. Websites constantly down with Afrihost and every second month they tell me I need more CPU.... so I ended up Managed Bronze, then Managed Silver and now Manage Gold for R1090 and they wanted me to upgrade again in December to the Managed Platinum for R1290.

Now we have two reseller servers R499 each with domains. Reason is because we running two elearning portals and cannot afford both to be down at the same time so I requested them to be split between two different servers on different machines. They did however done a assessment and told me that one is enough, but after all the drama we decided that's what we want.

Our team are reporting that they should have most of the affected servers back up shortly. I'm sure we'll also be publishing an incident report shortly with all of the technical details.

I know this has been a trying time, and many of our affected clients are disappointed in us. We fully understand your frustration and that some many feel like looking elsewhere. I truly believe that we have the best team and the best infrastructure, and we'll have these issues sorted out. We've had many years of experience in web hosting and it's one of the cornerstones of Afrihost's success. I truly believe that our team and our management will do a thorough review of what's happening here to ensure we get back on top again :)

Thanks for the update.

Cant wait for it to come back online that we can start with the back-log.

Hey guys

Just a quick one, we're continuing to see better results. Please keep an eye on your servers, I'm sure we should have this sorted out soon.

Thanks again, not up yet. Clientzone still say the server is up and running for 11 hours but you still cant access it.

Is that just part of the startup process - anyone else up?

Ours seem to be back online! Finally

Lucky you.

Their lines still divert to the voicemail, online chat shows they available but no-one accepts the chat. Tried several times 11pm and this morning.

First guy on the helpdesk tells me "unexpected load spikes" causing the server to be un-accessible on the moment.

Then they tell me that they going to restart the server, so I told them they did not because I can see in the clientzone its still running.

Then again tells me that the Server Administrator already picked up that my server is not running and started re-copying it out, except that the server is still shows its running for 12 hours and counting. Should they not stop it while coping it out?

Waited 20 min and the clientzone still shows the server is running 0d 13h 07m - so who and what must you believe now?

I'm AGAIN EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING IN AFRIHOST, never less that their calls divert to a voicemessage and their online chat shows that they online the entire night, but that no-one accepts it.

Is this ever going to end?

If the server is responding to ping, try flushing DNS and then logging in again. This has worked for a few clients

I'm really sorry for the horrible experience. We are seeing pretty much all the affected servers back online. As I mentioned, some servers are running, but a quick DNS flush sorts out the login issue.

If you're still having problems, please PM me so I can get you some assistance :(

AfriMan, could I ask that you change the "Medium Impact" on your network status for this issue to "High" or "Critical". Let's be honest here; this is a disaster. There is nothing medium about this.

We transferring domains now with a speed, creating the email accounts manually on the new server, just to try and help the clients. Websites we leave off until we can get to the Afrihost data again.

You must contact their office and speak to Oscar - Seems again like he get things done at Afrihost. They need more "Oscars" at Afrihost.

The impact is set by our management team. We also assess this based on the number of clients affected, effect on overall services (like Mobile, DSL) etc. I guess in their assessment the impact has dropped to medium, becuase most (if not all) servers are up and very few are experiencing residual issues now
