Afrihost cloud down again, and again, and again, and again.

Why do you guys not just move hosts.

I've been following this thread and there's more downtime here than anything else.

Surely its less hassle to move than it is to repeatedly lose clients.

Unfortunately it's not up to me and there's too much going on at work for the bosses wanting to take the time to move right now.

And Afrihost is down again!

We are reporting a problem at the MTN Gallo Manor Data Center that is affecting our Cloud Hosting environment. Client’s may experience issues connecting to their servers. The cause is unknown but our team is addressing the issue as top priority. Apologies for any inconvenience caused during this time, we hope to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Arrrgh! I'm going to convince my bosses to move to a different host because all this does is cause extra stress on me.

*edit*
Okay, our cloud servers are back up again. I hope they stay up.
Ours isn't up yet. We're moving

Cheaper? Have gone down less then Azure? Very simple systems to use. Better support. Take your pick.

If you think azure is not simple then i have to wonder, its clicky clicky interfaces piss easy. There is nothing wrong with Azure they offer a wealth of services to enhance your own applications. But yes they are a tad bit on the pricey side.

There is no chance local companies are in the league of international clouds, especially not afrihost.

Sorry man, but did you notice that Afrihost since changed this message from "High" to "medium" impact on their message.???????????????????????? Their entire Network is down and they calling it "medium" impact?

I also start questioning the involvement from Afrihost and Mybroadband - I notice a increase in service complaints against Afrihost in different forums but don't see any post on this. Normally they quick to post a story if a provider have down time like this.

Must contact Dave at domains.co.za - been very helpful so far. Not only do they offer the same package for half the price but they also giving much better service, also allow far more features, CPU and Ram than Afrihost offers.

Problem is that this is now the third time that Afrihost is down (past two weeks - did not mention the third time on their website), so domains.co.za don't get time to copy my sites out. If only we can get the Afrihost server to run long enough to copy the data out! - Not static sites, data constantly change so I need real data.

I got emails from domains.co.za server administrator 1 am in the morning while they trying to copy stuff out.

So all I ask Afrihost: "Please keep the server on long enough that I can copy my sites out".

Afrihost Clientzone Welcome Message.jpg

This is the message you receive when you login to their Client Zone.

Did Afrihost offer anyone their money back so far?

Then the bragging banner on their website with "ISP of the year 2013"
http://www.afrihost.com/#3

Anyway, just praying that the server will come on long enough that we can copy the data over to the new provider. I eventually had to switch my cellphone off. Clients swearing you like a........

Our host provider moved our sites to SA in Nov/Dec last year via AfriHost and ever since then we have had excessive downtime...today we have been down since around 7am and not end in sight.

Given that we are in the middle of some R 140m in transactions, this downtime places our company at huge risk.

Needless to say, our host provider is going to lose passive income on 4 websites for life thanks to AfriHost's problems...I am sure there are many many others that are of same mind...he choose to use AfriHost...it backfired so he must pay as we move our domains back to Godaddy.com...

Afrihost did not fail me on just the Cloud Hosting:

-Made endless mistakes on my account. Not one upgrade or downgrade was done correctly over the past year.
-Moving my 4Mb ADSL line over from Telkom last year took 4 weeks. (this was corrected within 1 hour of raising a serious complaint with Afrihost)
-My bundling of the ADSL Accounts with Telkom was never done and I was overcharged almost 6 months with the difference.
-My upgrade from the 4Mb to the 10MB ADSL Line resulted in a downgrade to a 1Mb line with endless accounts corrections. After almost 3 weeks I managed to get back to a 4Mb line.
-Twice my hosting upgrade resulted in overcharges, once I recall of over R14 000 a transaction.
-I bought the 3G router with the promotion, 8min after the promotion started. Was told its FREE but I’m still paying for it. Just given up fighting about it.
-I refer 4 people with ADSL lines last year to Afrihost. Afrihost sales department failed on all 4 accounts to assist the people with the migration.
-I signed up for the reseller package and ended up with a Cloud Hosting Package 3 x times more expensive and I’m still not happy after a year.
-In 2013 we calculated on two occasion that we spending more on telephone calls to their helpdesk that we actually spending on hosting. (This according to the Telkom itemised billing)
-Had endless complaints of their helpdesk staff moving my domains over to other reseller accounts, changing DNS setting resulting the domains down time. (Only they can allocate a domain to an account, so no blaming me)
-On two occasion I forwarded serious complaint letters to their helpdesk. The response I got was: We so sorry to hear that you cancelling your service. Please note that you must cancel your service directly in our clientzone or you will be liable for any outstanding accounts.
-I pay almost double for a “Managed Cloud Server”, but don’t ask them for help. They will get one of their frontline staff to quote some snobby response, but they WILL NOT PROVIDE YOU WITH A SERVICE.
-I downgraded the cloud server last week Friday (17th) morning - website (clientzone) once again had a error message that was only actioned on the 21st. This morning we downgraded again, same error message on the clientzone and we still waiting a response.

Sorry, only the ones I can remember for now.

Why waiting so long to move away….. I don’t know how to answer that. Got caught up in their fancy advertising I guess and hoped that everything will work out eventually.

I posted something about Afrihost on FB this week and got 12 responses of people who moved away the past two months because of service.

Server still off, just hope it comes on that we can copy the sites out.....

Afrihost has just failed so horribly with hosting it's actually unbelievable. I was one to recommend Afrihost in a heart beat before; never again.

I wouldn't call this cloud...
This is a crappy Vps solution on cheap hardware branded as something it isn't close to being. Where is the redundancy? Where is the DR plan? How bad is your config for this many nodes to fail at once?

I see a repeat of the Web Africa VPS situation taking place. The sooner they admit that they are in over their heads the better.

I wonder if we should maybe email Gian and let him know about these threads and problems. He surely can't be happy with his staff. They used to be so great when they were small. It's saddening to see them like this.

He must know about this; and it's probably his doing anyway if you think about it. And it's not just the VPS that is a stuff up; the entire Gallo Manor MTN data centre is also a stuff up. Moving from IS was a big mistake in my opinion. Over the last 6 months the VPS issues have been between the virtual environment and the physical data centre. I know that data centre, I had a Hetzner server there and I remember having issues not related to Hetzner, but that data centre. Since Hetnzer moved to their own data centre, I have not had a single instance of ****.

At the end of the day Afrihost chose a cheap thing and that cheap thing is breaking. I think they should go and beg IS for some space and say sorry.

Afrihost, Afrihost, O Afrihost.

If you have so much believe in your "Cloud Servers", why don't you host your own domain on a "Cloud Server" with the rest of us?

Haha there was an instance last year where there website resolved to mweb during an outage. I nearly cried laughing at what had taken place.

I copied Gian into an email sent to my account manager this morning. Our server went down yesterday at around 04:30 in the morning and is still inaccessible. Hoping to get a response in terms of when the server will be back up and / or how we can get access to our backups to relocate our hosting.

Ha Ha - you talking about that [email protected] email? Send two complaint emails to it in the past and still waiting for a response. Some staff member in customer service that receive it and compile some standard "canned" response. Good luck, but I dont think you going to get a response this year tho. If you do, please let us know.

Gian personally replies to each an every mail that he can. For the CEO of a major IT company, that's pretty impressive. I'm sure as much as he'd like to answer all the hundreds of mails he gets everyday immediately, he just physically can't (or at least not immediately).

We changed the impact becuase overall services are not down, and the data centre and our hosting network are not down completely. This is a data storage issue affecting a specific group of clients, at present less than 300 clients in total, and the bulk of our client son shared, dedicated and cloud hosting are not affected. This is also specific to one environment within our Gallo Manor DC. Our other DC's have not been affected either.
