Afrihost constant shaping applied

They are doing it to a lot of users. Throttle them to death, and "bit sir, if you upgrade to business package at x amount more , there will not be so much throttling"

Cash hungry BAST@RDS, ever since MTN (took over)

Perhaps, but I don't really care. My 8Mbit Afrihost Business is awesome. Once you go unshaped you can't go back.

Yea, I agree with you on the fact that all these issues started for me since MTN took over. Remember the email they sent out saying nothing will change? Ha! What a laugh. I guess it's sort of like net neutrality in a sense, except the users are being prioritised by how much they pay.

If it were up to me, the internet would and should be free (at least basic http sites), it should form part of taxes to uphold infrastructure etc, but everyone should have equal access to it. You're basically paying for information, which should be free to whomever wishes to have it.

I agree with this too, I can't even explain how much better the quality of my line is now. I've already managed to download 11 GB since I changed (only from 7pm at night till the next morning) :)

If your connection problems are clearly an exchange issue, how will changing ISP help?

Well Well Well.

How to put this? I pay Afrihost. I pay them for my CAP and LINE. I pay them to sort out my problems when i have them assuming that they will give better service and have a greater understanding thus leading to a shorter turn around time in case of faults or query's. This is the only reason i joined Afrihost (Service delivery).

So i get a problem... Who do i phone? (Not ghost busters) but Afrihost, seeing that i pay them for my entire service excluding fixed line rental. 70 Days later problem still not sorted. I come and rant on the forum blah blah blah and lo and behold TelkomZA saves the day. Took him 4 days and loads of tests but he came through.

Line looked fine last night. Will test again when i get home so holding thumbs.

So in short i hoped this answers your question of how will changing my ISP solve the situation.

Toodles.

after thought: I must have sent over 60 emails and made calls to the value of over R500 to Afrihost and must have spent at least 5 hours on hold. I was also requested to do more than 40 speed tests and trace routes. I was also forced to deal with multiple support staff and had to explain my problem over and over again

My effort with TelkomZa: 1 trace route and 1 quick explanation of the problem.

How did Telkom fix your exchange issues?

I've had line problems before and only communicated with Afrihost. In both cases, a Telkom techie was at my door the following day. Guess you were unlucky.

I Do not know. And to be honest i really don't care at this moment. This has been such a pain in my side for the last two months and to have it sorted out and be able to game and watch youtube and DL again feels like... like... i don't know but good, you get the point. All i have to do now is claim back my money i paid for a faulty service for two months!

Just get a capped account. My 50Gb package (with which I get 50Gb extra double deal) is R199. Guessing it's less than your uncapped account subscription, and a 100Gb is plenty.

Have 1x 4mbps Afrihost uncapped and 1x 10mbps Afrihost uncapped for testing purposes.
Both have a projected usage of 120gb for the entire month, both shaped to the max.

I'm also disappointed at my speeds on Afrihost 75+75GB capped at the moment on my 6Mbps line:

vs. my WebAfrica capped account:

I got capped for the sole purpose of being unshaped at whatever my line speed is and its after hours after all, where I'd expect the contention to be less...

Very strange how some are affected and others aren't

I have been with Afrihost capped 75GB, 2MB/4MB and now 10MB line for some time now.

The very few times I had issues was due to Telkom and Telkom fixed very quick.

I guess the trick that I have learnt over the years of troubleshooting ADSL is to be extremely calm when dealing the other side of the telephone.

I have been with
Axxess
Webafrica
Mweb

All three were crap from me and Afrihost well so far so good.

I have an 100Gig Capped account and this is my speed

I've been told that "we are experiencing a heavy DSL demand on the network country wide"

It strange that if you call them the first person will do resets and stuff and only then they will tell you that they can't do anything and they will forward my problem to a real technician. If this was an country wide problem surely the first person would have known about it.

I think it's the same old story....Afrihost bit a more off than what they can chew. Even if you call them it takes forever for someone to help you these days.

Keep up the Good work Afrihost.....you are now a Proudly South African service provider.
