Afrihost increases ADSL value

what does this mean for those of us on the promotional accounts ? ie the 11GB for R99 etc
to those get increased as well ?

I doubt it, log into your client zone, it will tell you there if your package will change on 1st May.

blocked at work unfortunately :( will have to wait till i get home

i thought someone here could check and let the rest of us know

Do Afrihost still only allow for payment via Debit Order & Credit Card ?

I'd be prepared to take some data off their hands if they started allowing payments to be made by Internet Transfer.

Unshaped basically means that they do not limit any protocol, and usually (not always) you get the best possible speeds on any protocol (Usenet, VOIP, Gaming, P2P, web browsing and mail) at any time.

Mweb has basically prioritised their network so that general users have almost nothing to complain about. All of the above work well. However, should you want to download via p2p or usenet, then you will be subject to shaping. Gaming is on the highest priority for Mweb users too. so that is why your ping is so good :)

Yes I know the difference. I wanted to hear of anyone's actual experience and when? I used to have a giganews account and I could happily flood my 1meg line. I'm starting to suspect that a lot of the time the difference between unshaped and shaped isn't really that big (other than the price obviously)

P2P during office hours sure just going on an mweb biz account never mind unshaped the difference is huge but that's about the only difference that I've seen.

EPICNESS!!!

Thank you Gian and team!!! :D:D:D:D

It's an early birthday prezzie for me! :D

Can some one tell me why you would take any of these packages? If you get any where remotely close to R199 a month you might as well take the Mweb uncapped and other wise its probably better to think about going 3G and saving the ADSL line charges?

Mweb's uncapped used to be bad for gaming but I'm getting great pings at the moment?

I can download at 4096kbps any time of the day, any day of the month. I get constant 11ms ping locally. The capped product is unshaped.

ai, just cancelled my 50gig capped account from ah because openweb beat them 2 it and ask for same thing R398.

guess I might as well have stayed

The 10 concurrent connections, full download speeds and R299.00 for 35 GB is my dealbreaker. I have two premises with ADSL and this is my cheapest option, 35GB is enough for my needs.

thats really a good price. would have liked a 50GB account for R299 though. I would jump to any ISP that can offer true unshaped bandwith.

I have a 1gb free account with Afrihost and its speeds are always full 700kBps. Any time. Ping to cpt is 10 and 30 to jhb. My uncapped is 8ms but limited to 350-390kBps. If im throttled, its half or worse...

There's a difference between "unshaped" and "uncapped with good speeds/pings lately".

Funny...no matter what time of day, on a standard MWeb uncapped 1Mbps line I consistently get in the range of 290ms pings to Guild Wars servers, and lighting fast local pings...my torrents fly during the day as well.

I'm no sure what all of the fuss is about?

Schweet! 3 Gigs becomes 6 gigs! I'm forever running out of bandwidth towards the end of the month and have to switch over to my WA pre-paid account @ R69/GB

I have one of these and it appears we are not getting any extra data. What I will be doing though is using the 2-for-1 top ups as needed. I can't complain (unless they start messing with the speeds).
