Afrihost launches Cell C fixed-LTE packages

AfriMan, I currently have Rain mobile LTE sim, which I use in a Huawei E5885 mobile router. I see you have the same router on your website. Will I be able to use the Cell C sim in that router. I need to cover Rain peak hours between 6 and 11 with a Cell C package

We don't offer that device on the promo (though it would probably work).

You can just go for the SIM only deal - though it might be worth considering the B315 as it's a more suitable fixed location router. Cell C is intended as a fixed location service, so using it for mobile may cause issues - AFAIK the service will be locked to the area you activate it in.

I have had some terrible experiences with Telkom with fixed LTE. That is why Rain's mobile LTE came as a godsend. Like I said I already have the router, I just want to know whether the Cell C sim will work as Rain's is currently working. Just for interest sake, I bought a Cell C prepaid, loaded it with a gig of data and put it in the router. Worked like a charm. That's why I want to confirm, whether these fixed LTE sims will work. Another question: Are you guys on month to month like Rain?

It is month to month, just bear in mind the 6 month minimum period which is part of the promotion.

Cell C's normal mobile coverage can differ from Fixed Wireless - as it's only LTE/LTE-A and does not roam on other network towers. Best to check if there is coverage at the specific address you plan to use it.

You're a month too late. I downgraded my Rain sim on AH and had to get my Cell C sim from WebAfrica (because Axxess is vas aan the slaap!).

What I really need is a Cell C 300GB package. Why don't you offer that?

At the moment there are a set range of products we can offer from Cell C - but we are working on offering a wider range with them.

Imagine that. You want to use more of their product but they don't want to sell it to you.

I'd be happy to pay R1000 per month for a 300GB deal.

Cancellation policy is harsh on SIM-only deals:

Cancellation Policy
Should you cancel your Fixed Wireless package in less than 6 months from signup date, or your account falls into arrears, you will automatically be charged a cancellation fee of R999.

Anyone know if Axxess/Mweb have the same policy?

I've ordered the 20 GB sim from Axxess to test at my new house which is a few blocks outside coverage but it's a two story house so might work.

I asked them what would happen if I cancel in the first month (which is free) due to no coverage and they said:

If you cancel within the same month of the free invoice promotion you will be charged the prorata for your data service

So a max of R215 in my case, but will be less based on activation date.

Thanks for the feedback, that is much better.

Nice one.
I'm currently very happy with my Rain threw Afrihost, come November I'll see what happens to the double data deal I'm currently on 55 plus 55 for R549, if the double data gets scrapped I'll go over to CellC 100 GB.
Coverage in my area excludes my house but couple houses down the street and couple houses up the street has coverage, so I'll still figure out that part.

At least we get rain :)

Strangely we were the second city where CellC rolled out 3G.

Strange because Richards Bay was one of the first towns Cellc rolled out 3G and once 4G roll out started outside the major metros I see they once again targeted Richards Bay. Even some townships in Richards bay and Empangeni got Cellc LTE. :wtf:
