Afrihost launches Cell C fixed-LTE packages

Strange because Richards Bay was one of the first towns Cellc rolled out 3G and once 4G roll out started outside the major metros I see they once again targeted Richards Bay. Even some townships in Richards bay and Empangeni got Cellc LTE. :wtf:

If normal LTE test fine, does it mean fixed LTE will be fine and vice versa?

I'm yet to see MTN 4G... Afrihost still has not enabled my SIM to get 4G.

I guess so because I don't see the difference in fixed lte and normal LTE coverage to be honest.

Don't think so. Check the coverage map on the Cell C website, there is a fixed LTE option and the coverage is not 100% the same as LTE/LTE-A.

I'm yet to see MTN 4G... Afrihost still has not enabled my SIM to get 4G.

I doubt we will see that anytime soon, but hey you never know. Even after the announcement I have never see anyone roaming on MTN 4G with Cellc yet.

Also what possible reason would one have to take the Sim Only 20GB option over the Free B315 router 20GB option if the callelation policy applies to both?

My house / complex is literally right next to the Fixed Cell C Zone. Is there a way to get reception or not really?

It's tough to say. With RAIN we found that most people just outside the area still got good signal, but I can't give you a guarantee

I'm currently very happy with my Rain threw Afrihost, come November I'll see what happens to the double data deal I'm currently on 55 plus 55 for R549, if the double data gets scrapped I'll go over to CellC 100 GB.
Coverage in my area excludes my house but couple houses down the street and couple houses up the street has coverage, so I'll still figure out that part.

Which is why I ordered Rain Mobile and Cell C fixed LTE sims to test at my new house. No ADSL . If LTE fails there is a WISP.

Afrihost website says I have coverage ("Congratulations, you have Afrihost Fixed Wireless"), but Cell C website shows that I'm just outside the coverage area (thumbs down for fixed-LTE)?

As per Cell C, I'm in a planned area, but across the road it shows that there is coverage, and a few houses away it shows as in progress.

Should I believe Afrihost and bite the bullet, or is there some way to confirm coverage?

Would it be feasible getting a prepaid cell c sim and using the phone (P10 lite) as a modem to test speed? According to Afrihost and CellC website I have coverage in my area but want to test speed to see if cost/speed justifys me replacing my 10Meg ADSL till March when I will be taking C-Fiber if it goes live on time as planned. Also I see on the cheaper device its only limited to 30Meg download, should the phone be able to surpass this value then better to the the more expensive router?

Lastly tested telkom lte at my place and was getting 40-45Meg which isnt that bad, maybe cell c can do even faster.

That's the thing. I am not sure if testing on LTE if it also means the Fixed LTE will be the same.... Apparently they are not the same...

You can't opt in with a regular Cell C sim - we have to ship one to you. If you're testing with their mobile product, it may differ to Fixed Wireless coverage (and performance) so we still can't guarantee the result will be the same.

Yes, it is really bad for Afrihost, and a deal breaker for me.

I know you get the activation month free when taking sim-only, but with my luck I'll receive it on the last day of the month... I'd rather take the B315 and just sell it on Gumtree.
