Afrihost launches Cell C fixed-LTE packages

Exactly. If it wasn't for this 6 month thing my order would have been placed Yesterday already. It's a shame really. I can somewhat understand it when you take the "free" router, but not with a sim-only deal.
 
Get LTE just fine at home PE (neighbours on CellC)
Would this work ("normal" LTE) even though map says im not covered?

Remember that on the higher packages the monthly fee is much higher, and we offer free express and normal delivery as well. So it's still month to month and you can cancel as per normal, subject to that fixed cancellation fee in the first six months.

On the router deals, you would almost always score cos you get a R1999 for R999 (if you cancel) or a R2998 device for R1998.

On the SIM only deal we still cover delivery, etc so it's subject to the same terms.

Regular Cell C mobile coverage is separate from Fixed Wireless, so it won't necessarily indicate that you have coverage. Best to check out map first - if there no coverage then you would most likely not get service :(

I signed up for a 25GB package on Cell C (sim only) with WebAfrica and I'm pretty sure there was no 6 month minimum period. I definitely wouldn't do the same order with Afrihost if they are enforcing such a draconian policy.
 
Yup. Spin it all you want. A cancellation charge applying within 6 months makes it a 6 month contract. A Legal Eagle has confirmed this.

(I can understand the obligation when there's physical equipment involved that may be subsidised, but for a SIM-only offering???)

That is why I said I call bs on Fixed LTE and LTE coverage differences. The Afrihost, axxess and webafrica sites show coverage as long as there is LTE coverage and Cellc website show Fixed LTE coverage probably based on Fixed LTE-A sales nothing more.

To bad because the new sim only deals form cell c are cheaper but they won't let me take it because I'm out of coverage...
 
Hi @AfriMan, just ordered this deal 50GB... Is it true that it only works where you activated it? Don't wanna activate it here at work, then get home later to find out I am screwed

I'm interested as well and asked both Afrihost and Axxess the same question - whether the CellC LTE-A SIM is locked to the area where it's activated or whether it can be used anywhere with LTE coverage. Here's the responses:

Axxess:

The sim can be be used in a cellphone/router as long as it 4G compatible and can be used anywhere with LTE coverage.

I can comment on Axxess Cell C Fixed LTE, worked in any location as long as 4G was available.

It will work wherever Fixed LTE is available.

That is very interesting because essentially they are both Cell C Services and general coverage experience should be the same whether you are with Axxess or Afrihost... I know I moved a lot with my Axxess sim and router... even when home to the township in Durban, KwaMashu - as long as there is LTE covergage, the sim worked, haven't tried that with the Afrihost package
