So In August I cancelled with Telkom and last week I ordered my shiny new 10mb contract with Afrihost. My telkom contract came to an end on Friday (Data only of course), So in my wisdom, I assumed that My 1mb would become 10mb the next day.

Well when I eventually get hold of them to inquire why I am still syncing at 1mb after changing my router settings etc, I first get told 48 hours. Sad panda but ok cool.. Then I later get told only in 2 weeks! Aaargh. VERY sad panda.

No ones fault but mine for not understanding how things work. I stupidly started my Unodns trial (8 days) so i can get some netflix love, but I will not get a good demo of the service on a 1mb.

No point to this post other than to rant :/

U are aware that it takes telkom 2 minutes over the phone to switch your line from 1mb to 10mb ? They do it over the phone while u wait ...

Im not sure where the 2 weeks comes in that Afrihost is talking about because all they do is flip a switch on the DSLAM remotely ...

Thing is, it's a tad more complicated once your line is in the ISP's name.

1. You request the line upgrade at Afrihost on ie Monday morning.
2. Afrihost sends the requests to Telkom in batches in the mornings, so it will get sent to Telkom on Tuesday morning 8am.
3. Telkom will then process and sort these batches and allocate each request to a ticket.
4. Once this is done the tickets are processed.

My line upgrade took about 36-odd hours this way. Much longer than when I called Telkom to upgrade my 384 to 1Mb (took me 2 minutes) back in the day, but because of the scale of ISP-Telkom interactions it's not possible to do it on a request by request basis.

Ahh that makes sense, i presumed it could be something to do with the ISP but what stops him from phoning telkom himself surely they will still assist him.

Sorry about the mis-communication :(
The 2 weeks comes in when we move your line from Telkom to us - if you've chosen that option. A line upgrade (once the line is under our control) can take up to 48 hours.

Could you PM me your line number so I can take a look at the account for you? I'll see if I can speed up some processes here :)

The OP is no longer the account holder for the ADSL line... so Telkom will want to speak to the account holder, who is now Afrihost.

As a general rule, I keep my line with Telkom.

It avoids all the hassle of moving it when you change ISP or have problems. You don't get bounced from Telkom to your ISP and from your ISP to Telkom.

Glad your issue was solved,
I'm experiencing one issue after the other now,

*Update*
OK sorted out now
